Reef/Science Biggest Wave update.

posted by Gareth White on 3rd January 2008

With only a few months left for entries into the inaugural Reef/Science Biggest Wave Contest, and with the winter swells having past, it seemed as though we would have to make do with the few shots already submitted.

It has to be said that the past few months have been rather quiet, but behind the scenes I have been chasing after shots without much luck. Thankfully, Michel Dei-Cont saw fit to submit these fine photos on the 1st of Jan and thus breathing life back into the contest.

Mike submitted 6 shots, 4 of which have been entered into the running for the great prizes on offer. The other 2 shots didn’t meet the contest requirements, but deserve recognition for the guts it took to ride those waves.

The rider in question is none other than Cape Town based big wave charger, Peter Lambert. Peter truly has been on a mission this past winter doing daunting paddle outs at Sunsets, searching our coast for his next perfect ride and taking a couple of sets on the head in the process. Luckily he has come out relatively unscathed and is still on the hunt.

Please remember that the contest ends on the 29th of February 2008 and that all submissions need to reach us by the 7th of March 2008 in order to qualify.

If you have any photo’s of your mates riding solid waves please do submit them irrespective of whether or not you feel that they will win the contest. We want to share the stoke of bodyboarding and the more images we get the better it is.

Also remember that there is a prize on offer for the biggest wipe out, so if you have shots of a friend taking one for the team, he or she could walk away with a good old Bag of Carrots!

Prizes on offer for the winner of the contest are:

R4000 cash prize will be awarded to the rider judged to have ridden the biggest wave in South Africa on a bodyboard. There is also a R4000 cash prize for the photographer who captures the winning image.

These prizes were kindly donated by Reef Wetsuits and Science Bodyboards.

To enter the contest please send unedited photo's or video clips to:
