Reef/Science Biggest Wave Contest - Update

posted by Gareth White on 4th August 2007

Following the running of the Extreme Big Wave Bodyboarding event at Bay View near Hermanus, the Reef/Science Biggest Wave Contest has received it's first submissions.

The event was held on the 24th of July, with swells in the region of 15 to 20 foot, pushing contestants too their limits and claiming victims in it's wake.

Marcel Habets was on hand to capture images of the riders testing themselves in the daunting conditions. Knowing he had snapped a couple of gems he quickly submitted some of the photos into the Reef/Science Contest, which has been up and running for just over two months.

Pickings have been slim to say the least and Marcel's photos have officially opened the contest, which has some awesome prizes up for grabs. They include R4000 cash, which will be awarded to the rider judged to have ridden the biggest wave in South Africa on a bodyboard. There is a R4000 cash prize for the photographer who captures the winning image. Making entering a great investment for both parties.

All photos or video of the rides must be submitted via email to .

Only by submitting images to the above email, will they be entered into the contest.
