Mossel Bay Point Outerpool Challenge 2006

posted by Nathan Wood on 9th June 2006

Finally the long awaited Outerpool event is upon us. The prestigious and legendary Mossel Bay Point Outerpool wave is now open for competition. This consistent right hand break is visited by pro surfers around the world and with its backdrop of quite sunny restaurants like Delphino’s and Kingfisher as well as sunny beach front bungalow’s, it is an enjoyable experience for the entire family. With great fishing spots right off the Point and quiet strolls to adventurous climbs up the famous Mosselbay caves, this town has become known for its incredible tourist attractions and epic waves as well as being considered the most beautiful town in the garden route!

The breakdown of this esteemed wave is a right point reef, breaking over a sharp rock-strewn reef with a hint of sand; its swell size is consistent and smoothly handles anything from 2-8ft and can deliver the goods. Many international riders have been awestruck by its power and immensity - this wave is not to be taken lightly, it is indeed a powerful flow of water.
The competition will be held from the 11th to the 14th July and will host some epic times as well as total prize money of R12.000. I know of a few things I could do with R12.000.

Due to huge interest there will only be one main division but the top fifteen riders will all receive a prize, the competition is open to all divisions and preliminary rounds will be set so everyone gets a decent chance.
The briefing of the competition will be held on the 10th July and will begin at 7pm at Tidals. A set of ground rules will be made clear and everyone joining the competition with an entry fee cost at only R180 will be given a contest t-shirt, compliments of Kronic Klothing. On the night of the briefing, Bodyboarding DVD’s will be shown with local talents such as Vaughn Harris, Jared Houston, Adam Morley, Matthew Botha, Stephen Maree, Johan Nortje, Micheal Meyer, Nathan Wood and much more., compliments of Blair Productions.

On the day of the prize giving locally renowned band Arravist will be playing some daft punk at Tidals. To keep everyone on the buzzing high, stoke levels will be kept intact by a Huge after party at Tidals. This event is not to be missed and entry forms will be on sixty40.co.za next week Sunday the 16th.

For accommodation enquiries please call Park Backpackers on (044) 691 1937.

We would like everyone to participate, so people experiencing problems with accommodation please call Theresa on (044) 690 3081 or Nathan on 082 886 0577 and we will sort something out.
