Mossel Bay Outerpool Challenge 2006: Kruger Wins

Cape Town's Ian Kruger edged out Mossel Bay local Adam Morley in an extremely tight heat to walk away with R6000 in cash. Adam Morley started the 30-min final with a big invert, quickly backed up by a couple of ARS's on his next few waves. Ian Kruger then started picking up some good waves doing some clean ARS's, he then launched a big invert with about 10 minutes left on the clock. Final scores of the final; Ian Kruger 46.7, Adam Morley 46.0. 0.7 of a point seperated the two riders. The other two riders in the final were Mossel Bay locals Johan Nortje and Emile Maree. The never threatend to win the heat, but they deserved their 3rd and 4th places respectively.
There were some upsets in the contests as well. Mossel Bay grom Wicus Ellis managed to knock out Michael Meyer and Matthew Botha in the first quarter final. He really showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Johan Nortje also caused an upset by knocking out 2005 Wedge Classic champion Marc Jucker in the semi finals, local knowledge seemed to pay off for Johan. Nantes Visser also used his homeground advantage to knock out 2005 SA Champs Jared Housten in the quarter finals.
The contest was a huge success and will only get bigger and better. A big thank you must go the sponsors of this years contest. Without these companies and people in charge of these companies this event would not of been possible.
The Mossel Bay Outerpool Challenge is set to run again next year straight after the Wedge Classic, so start planning your July holiday next year so that you can make a stop at an already prestigious event. It looks prize money will be going up next year as well, with a big local fishing company already wanting to get involved for next year's contest.
