Unfortunately, the predicted Easterly blew today.. and blew hard! Dodgy conditions has seen Day 1 shortened by 4 heats - Pro Quarters - who will take to the water in hopefully better conditions tomorrow morning.

Thankfully, there was no sign of water contamination and the event kicked off without any problems.

Standouts for the day included: Mark McCarthy and Ray Keane in the Dropknee division making semi-finals. Ray has returned to competition and managed to make semis by placing 2nd in the qualifying round then 2nd again in the quarter finals. In the junior division, the Mossel Bay crew did well. Adam Morley, fresh from the Boys division won both his heats to secure a spot in the semis tomorrow. Local, Dirk van der Merwe has also managed to make semi-finals. Emile von Vollenhoven is another Boys rider placed in the semi-finals.

Too early to tell how things are going to end up in the Pro Division with the Quarter-Finals still to come. Winners of the opening rounds were: Rylin Richardson, Wayne Smith, Phillip Rodrigues and Neil Smith. Three guys previously juniors showing good form. We will see what happens tomorrow.

A south west wind is expected to come through either tomorrow or tomorrow night. Hopefully that is the case because as you can see from the pics... conditions were not at all favourable.
