HB Pro-Am kicks off the 2005 circuit
posted by John Cawood on 25th November 2004
NKZNBA will once again be hosting the first contest on the SABA calendar for 2005. The Hot Buttered Pro-Am will take place from the 17th to 19th December and forms part of the City of uMhlathuze's Annual Beach Festival.
The contest will run for two days (17th and 18th December) with the third day (19th) allowed as a window day to run the finals in case of terrible conditions and to use for trials for the World Bodyboarding Games to be held in South Africa in 2005. Details are sketchy at the moment on how the WBG Trials are going to work but we will keep you informed on any news from the SABA Executive Committee.
What can we expect as far as conditions go? Well, for last years event, there was a bit of swell around but the wind messed it up completely. With the contest running in December, we are expecting much of the same for this year. Lots of beastly onshore winds, not much swell and blisteringly hot days (bring the sunscreen). If we are all lucky... we will get the kind of conditions that Richards Bay locals have enjoyed all year or at least the conditions we had the weekend before the last Hot Buttered in December 03.
The organisers of the Beach Festival, the uMhlathuze Municipality and the uMhlathuze Tourism Association, have included new events and attractions on this year's programme to provide fun and entertainment for the whole family.
The event promises to once again be a success and NKZNBA would like to thank Hot Buttered for their support of bodyboarding in South Africa. We would also like to thank our other sponsors: The City of uMhlathuze, Sonic Footwear, Macs Fish and Chips and Alliance Graphic and Web Design.
See you in the Bay!
