Sintra & World Champ wrapped

1st September 2010

What a year it's been for Amaury Laverhne. The guy has just been on fire all year!! The dream started with a win at Pipe, followed by a 2nd at Arica and another win in Sintra to seal the deal and be the NEW WORLD CHAMP 2010! It's a first title win in history that has not been won prior to the last event! Amaury Lavernhe has wrapped it with 3 events still to come. The Reunion islander is yet to have a bad heat this year, and showed us all today that he is the man for 2010 by winning Sintra. In 2008 Amaury came very close to winning the title and then finished 6th in 2009. Amaury has put in the hard yards and is due all the credit! There is not much more that I can stay so well done AL you're a champ though and though!!!

Check how stoked AL was:

I had such a big build up to this Sintra event, I trained really hard and when I left SA I had such a good feeling about this event. In my heat I had a really good opening wave that I should have flipped, but just wanted to get a score on board, so I just did a roll and got a 6.5. At the end of it all I needed a 6.6, so it was really frustrating for me not to have flipped that first wave! It's a lesson that I keep teaching myself to not roll flip sections.

Anyway it's hard to write about losing, and so I will mark down my faults and apply what I have learnt in the next event in Ferrol that kicks off on Thursday. A good thing is that they are predicting swell for the whole of the week so let's hope it hangs around for the weekend.

My stay in Sintra

While in Sintra I got to do some cool sightseeing :) .The summer days are so dam long in Europe so the sun only sets at 9pm! On the down time I got to go check out the famous palace of Pena. Wow it's hard to believe how old it is and to even explain how epic it was to spend the afternoon roaming around the Palace. It's a must do when you visit the town of Sintra!! If you want to learn a bit more about this unreal site just check it out on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pena_National_Palace.

The entrance fee is only 12 Euros and for an extra 2 Euros you can catch the bus up if you're feeling lazy. There are also really cool parks, gardens and trails surrounding the palace that you have to check.

I was staying in the festival capital of Portugal called Cascais which is about 20 minutes away from Sintra. So I spent most afternoons just cursing about the local beaches.

Anyway I hope to check in early mid next week for a build up to the Ferrol event and what I have been up to.

Cheers for now.

Boetie.
