Yellow Fever

28th November 2010

One week down and 2 more to go ... straight into it I tell you ... after getting picked up by Richardo at the airport we went straight to surf la Tubaria with Bass and Jerry. We could not complain much as the waves were pumping!

Unfortunately that was the peak of the swell so the next few days we scored fun Fronton but it has been really crowed. It's been a hard week of finding rhythm out there as the locals are very dominant and don't like to share too many waves. I mean it only takes 4 locals to make it crowded and at the best of time there were 20 guys out! But I guess it's part and parcel of surfing well know waves.

My plans of heading out to Lanzarote changed as the swell that was predicted was not as good as the report suggested so we ended up staying on Gran Canaria and surfed a damn crowed Fronton!

To get to Lanzarote we would have had to catch an 8 hour boat ride and then a ferry across to the outer islands so it would have been such a let down if we did not score. But after a week of crowds at Fronton I am really keen to head out when the forecast looks good again.

Something to smile about...

On Wednesday morning I got up real early to check out the waves, the forecast said it was going to be flat but I just wanted to ride uncrowded waves, did not matter how small it was. I headed out at 7am with Hugo (Portuguese Science rider) and JB from Hawaii. We were so lucky to score 3 foot nuggets. It was real clean and so consistent. We got to surf for about an hour before Jerry, Novy and a local guy paddled out. Unfortunately the swell did not last for long and by 10am the waves were all gone. I was real stoked to get a few good uncrowded waves. This weekend the locals are having a national contest in Galdar so it's going to be jam packed everywhere.

One thing that's has been unreal is the clarity of the water, I have never seen such blue water ever!

It's been cool to see Cobus and also been having a few fun sessions with Bass and Jerry.

Anyway I am out and will send more news after the weekend.

Cheers for now.
