Day three of the closing event on the IBA World Bodyboarding Tour was a testing day for competitors in round 1 & 2 of the WWT (World Women's Tour)

A drop in swell meant that wave selection was critical and some of the warm favourites were eliminated including 2006 World Champion Marina Taylor from Gran Canaria.

Taylor is a renowned big wave specialist and had looked forward to the tour coming to her hometown so she could show not only the travelling pros, but also the parochial locals exactly why she is one of the best in the sport.

"It's not good. I am not happy" said a dejected Marina after her R2 defeat at the hands of Portugals Catarina Sousa. She used her distinct weight advantage in the man on man heat to move into the quarterfinals tomorrow.

The Australian trio of Mandy Zieren, Kira Llewellyn and Lilly Pollard all won through to the quarters with Lilly topping the day's best single score with a blistering 9.25.

Other results saw ...

Chiaki Okuyama (JPN) defeated Marta Fernandez (POR)
Mayla Venturin (BRZ) whitewashed Norioko Kawagoe (JPN)
Rita Pires (POR) conquered Chigusa Nishiyama (JPN)
Eunate Aguirre (SPN) overpowered Moe Wantanabe (JPN)

Brazilian Neymara Carvalho has sewn up the Women's world title for 2007 however second position has a few contenders vying for it. Two of the main players are Kira Llewelyn (AUS) and Mayla Venturin (BRZ).

"This year was really good to me and I hope to finish in second place. It's my first time here and I really like right-handers so I'm happy. The contest is really big and the Canary Islands is so beautiful ... I'm so excited that we have good waves" said Mayla.

Kira Llewellyn was equally as animated with her response "The waves are actually quite trying here today but I think that the girls put on a great display. I think that Lilly almost equalled the highest score of the contest and I got a good wave in my last heat"

Tomorrow will be a big day at Confital as the top seeds in round 4 & 5 as well as the quarters of the girls hit the water. It's also a public holiday and with a two metre swell forecast the stage is set for an all time spectacle.
