Herold’s Bay, Southern Cape - South Africa
26 to 30 September, 2005
Event organisers are thrilled to announce that international surf label Rip Curl have come on board sponsoring extremely generous prizes for the 2005 SABA SA Bodyboarding Championships held at Herold’s Bay in the Southern Cape from September 26 to September 30.
“It’s quite unusual to be approached at such a late hour to become involved in an event of this stature but Rip Curl’s philosophy has always been ‘made for surfers by surfers’. By understanding the surf market we’d like to give the bodyboarding community whatever support possible to ensure that the event is as great a success as it has been in the past,” commented Mike Larmont from Rip Curl South Africa.
Following a hiccup with one of the sponsor’s Rip Curl has stepped in to provide contest t-shirts for all competitors as well as sought after Rip Curl tide watches, surf watches and wetsuits for all of the division’s finalists (U12 Boys, U15 Boys, U16 Girls, U18 Juniors, Pro Men, Women, Men, Masters, Drop Knee and Development).
The added incentive of Rip Curl product at stake is expected to raise the level of competition even higher. In addition to this there will be cash prizes to the tune of thousands of Rands.
SABA Chairperson Pat Harris welcomed Rip Curl’s generosity saying, “This is going to be one of the best SA Bodyboarding Champs ever held. We have such a great venue, all of the Provinces are really excited and we are expecting a very high standard of riding.”
Rip Curl consider themselves to be the purist surfing company with the leading technology in wetsuits, tide watches and other technological surfing accessories. For more information please visit www.ripcurl.com
The 2005 SABA South African Bodyboarding Champions will be crowned within the next two weeks over a five-day national tournament hosted by Southern Cape.
The event which is sanctioned by the South African Bodyboarding Association (SABA) has attracted over 154 entries and is guaranteed to be an exciting affair with individual as well as team titles at stake.
Development clinics will be run during the event to attract newcomers as well as uncover and develop fresh talent to add to the fast growing sport of competitive bodyboarding.
The South African Bodyboarding Championships were first held in Jeffreys Bay in 1987. Team members representing each province are selected from a series of trials held in their region over the course of the year. This is the final event on the 2005 SABA circuit; in addition to crowning new SA Champions, the points count towards the crowning of the 2005 national series SABA champions.
