Day 4:SA Bodyboarding Champs

posted by Janet Middleton on 4th October 2012

The day started off with round 2 of Drop-Knee; 4 foot waves, offshore winds and a higher tide led to great DK waves! Due to the outgoing tide, the call was made to run the quarter finals. Juniors were up first, followed by the Pros, Mens and Boys and finishing up with the DK semi final.

Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal lost many riders through some extremely close heats including a tiebreaker down to the fourth wave - putting Central Kwa-Zulu Natal ahead with a slight advantage going into the semi finals and finals on the final day of the SA Champs contest.

The Play Girls were out on the beach, handing out Power Play Energy Drinks to keep the guys energized throughout the day. Some standout riders from the fourth day of the event were Dylan van Tonder in the DK division making full use of the larger waves and Tristan Roberts scoring the first 10 point score of the competition with an awesome backflip followed up by an ARS in the Boys division.

The wind dropped off during the second half of today and tomorrow looks set to be a lay day with bad winds and rain predicted. With only 16 heats left of the SA Champs 2012, Saturday looks set to deliver some great waves to wrap up the contest!
