South African Bodyboarding Championship to be hosted by Southern KZN Bodyboarding Association

posted on 25th September 2012

Coming up in October is the final event on the South African Bodyboarding calendar, the SA Bodyboarding Championship with teams totalling just under 150 riders travelling from all over the country to compete in the largest bodyboarding competition in South Africa.

Defending champions, Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal will play host to the 26th annual SA Bodyboarding Champs from 1st - 6th October 2012. Although on home turf, the competition is set to be fierce with the other provinces' sights set on winning the coveted Fishman Trophy. Along with Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal, other competing provinces are Western Province, Central Kwa-Zulu Natal, Eastern Province, Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal, Boland and Southern Cape.

SABA chairman, Michael van Huyssteen is enthusiastic and "looking forward to 26th Annual SA Bodyboarding Champs both as a competitor and an administrator. If the past years' competitive performances is something to go on then we are in for a very exciting championships with riders pushing the limits of aerial displays. This year, we also welcome back Southern Cape Bodyboarding team who have not competed for several years. I am confident that the competitive spirit shown over the past 25 years of competition will once again be the norm at this year's SA Champs. Good luck to all the teams, may your travels be safe and you all bring your 'A' game as hosts Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal will be planning on keeping the 'Fishman Trophy'."

Last year, teenager Storm Prestwich, made history as the first rider to win both the junior and pro titles at the SA Champs! A Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal local, Storm will be returning to defend his pro title and the warm waters of the "Hibiscus Coast" are sure to provide spectators with a thrilling event.

Event organiser, Hannelie Millar said: "It has been an absolute pleasure putting this event together; a big thank you to all our sponsors who joined in on the logistical planning process with ease. We look forward to welcoming our fellow sportsmen to our beautiful coastline."
