Hey guys, shot for all the input! You're totally right - okes don't like being pushed for comment/ratings but it did fire up a cool bit of interaction... I agree too on the cropping thing - I'm just so used to cruising around the high res, zooming in and out and getting the full context of the pic but at this res... ja, should be cropped tighter. As for the colour... hmmm debate... I did tweak it a bit but am hesitant to change the colour too much, you wanna see it's actually KalkBay... Keep a look out for new shots... dc

A good shot 4 sure. A few things which could have been improved upon.

I'm not a photog so this is my bush mechanic advice.

1. Focus is a little off --- a sharpening tool such as Photoshop's "Unsharp Mask" would help a little bit at sorting that out and even top guys use this to hide small focus problems.
2. CROP - I see loads of shots submitted to sixty40 which are not cropped. Maybe you wanted to submit this as such but I would recommend cropping it. Because your resolution is much higher than is required for web, you can crop loads which in effect is the same as adding extra zoom to your camera. Even guys with high resolution digitals without telephoto can produce close up pics by cropping.
3. Auto Contrast --- (Photoshop or Picasa have this option) helps remove the white haze across a shot. Run it and you'll see what I mean.
4. Finally if you want to bring out that amazing blue in the shots which you see in mags then you need to use a tool such as "Curves" in Photoshop.

Best to have a read of these tips by Paul Jarvis:

Photo Colouring, Scanning and Web Submissions. He used to have them on his own site but that no longer exists and it is available on fluidzone.

Finally, have a read of a few of his other articles.

i think it got pulled down by your asking for it to be honest. people are slow to rate and by harassing them you mite p them off.

i gave it 9 though.

Are okes too pressed for time or too chicken to rate a shot?! I reckon this barrel is just ridiculous but hey, that's just me, maybe cos I was on the beach instead of getting shaked. I'm giving it a 9, only cos there could've been more detail.

This was Sunday 21st May about 5 in the arvo. It looked pretty small from the carpark and the weather report had a big SE swell at 11 seconds. It was deceptive as the wave actually only made itself felt as it hit the reef so there were quite a few sic wipe-outs as the guys went over the falls with the lip! It sure cranked though!
