Get ready for the Kumba West Coast Classic 2011

posted on 11th March 2011

SABA 5A rated event
Hosted by Boland Bodyboarding and Reef South Africa.

A perfect left and right reef break on a deserted coast is something all body boarders dream of surfing. At last year's West Coast Classic the waves were nothing short of perfection for an event on its debut on the SABA calendar and I'll put my neck out and say this year's event should be even better!

Kumba Iron Ore has once again come to the party and pushed up the total prize money to bring a 5A rated SABA event back to the circuit, making this event one of, if not the biggest event on the annual circuit.

Kumba Iron Ore Limited is a leading value-adding supplier of the highest quality iron ore to the global steel industry. Kumba is a member of the Anglo American plc group. Kumba engages with surrounding business partners like Boland Bodyboarding to promote sports and recreation, health and wellness with the aim of promoting positive, mutually beneficial outcomes in the areas where it operates.

REEF South Africa, once again will be the main product sponsor making sure this event is enriched with brands like Science, Viper Fins and many others. The familiar Coke Cola truck will be providing us with lots of entertainment again and also bringing out the DJ in all of you.

The WCC will be held a lot earlier this year than the previous year due to conditions better suiting the West Coast of South Africa. Dates for the event will be the 8th-10th April 2011, but the event has a day extra incase a window period is needed. The same area of the coast will be utilised from Lamberts Bay and just south.

Last year's Pro division and World Tour competitor Mark McCarthy will not be able to attend to defend his title so this year's Pro division title is up for grabs.

A development Clinic will be held again this year and to all of those who attended last years event will know what it means to the local kids in the area to have a chance to have fun and enjoy the ocean and the waves like we do.
