The Arato Pro will be held on the anniversary weekend Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of January 2011 at Sunset Beach North of Auckland. Some proper swell is predicted and the conditions are looking promising for Sunday.

This is one of the 5 stops on the New Zealand bodyboarding tour. This leg sees three capetonians taking part in the event in the hope of keeping the SAFFA flag flying high.

Deon Meyer hails from Big Bay, in Cape Town, and has been involved with WPBA for the last 4 years. Deon has recently left his 9 to 5 job to become a travelling surfer who is keen to school some kiwis and take on the world of bodyboarding.

Storm Morgan is currently ranked 5th in the amateur division in New Zealand and is known best for his big wave surfing. Storm has been living in NZ for the past couple of years and has a good reputation among the locals.

David Burger is currently ranked 2nd in the u/18 division of the NZ Tour. David is an up and coming grom with loads of potential. A solid all round bodyboarder with a good bag of tricks.

The boys are looking forward to the competion this weekend; it would be interesting to see what the standard of New Zealand Bodyboarding is.

You can follow the boy’s progress on the BBZN website for heats and scores. BBSNZ is the national structure that promotes and supports the sport of bodyboarding in New Zealand.

“The BBSNZ tour has been running in its current format for the past 6-7 years. We run 5 contests each year, 2-3 in each of the North and South Island. Although the competition is serious, the vibe around the contests is laid back and fun with a good crew attending all events from right around the land of the long white cloud. We have ha...d a diverse range of bodyboarders from all over the world competing on our tour but one of the constants has been good times and our Saffa brothers. They are part of the NZ bodyboarding family - apart from at rugby world cup time!!”
