Dan Worsley takes all at WP Champs 09

Daniel Worsley wins the WP Sport Unlimited Chris Elliott Champs, which were held at Derdesteen, near Melkbosstrand, in reasonable 3-4ft surf on Saturday the 15th of August. The WPBA chose to give the event a "winner takes all" format in every division, so with the possibility of a substantial cash prize for the winner and valuable product hampers for the runners up, competitors travelled from across the country to participated.

The final heats were amazing as all the riders in all the divisions displayed some of the best bodyboarding seen in a long time.

The boys fought hard exchanging some blows as the shorebreak became more and more intense. Yes there were a couple wicked beat downs.

Next up was the ever exciting juniors division. Current SA juniors Champ, David Lillienfield popped a handful of his trademark ARS's onto dry sand. The crowd felt his pain. Andrew Raath and Chris vd Westhuizen sat in their own worlds picking of the best ones with some good scoring rides.

The heat of the day had to be the men's final as Bjorn Coetzee, Michael Meyer, JP Nortier and PJ Venter raised the bar gladiator style. All the riders landed big maneuvers, but the final show off was
between JP and Bjorn, who went head to head exchanging shattering ARS's and tweaked inverts.
It was one of the closest scoring men's heats in WP history as there was only 0.5 between 1st and second!

DK riders had it tough in the shorebreak conditions, but Sean Tickner and Josh Kleve pulled a few huge floaters. Local knowledge proved to be crucial when Daniel Worsley, got a solid barrel that left a bitter taste in the mouth of his fellow finalists.

Onto the pro final. By now the conditions had gotten trickier as the water was shifting around and it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Johnny Maritz flew high with his signature inverts but the show stopper, Worsley, was unstoppable.

Janneke de Kock and Robert Scott won their ladies and master heats convincingly.

The following weekend the annual WP prize giving was held at the Big Bay life saving club and did that party get out of hand!

Musical maesto's, Nungarin, put on an awesome display of their talents to keep the crowd entertained.
