The day started with the qualifiers in R5 taking on some of the more experienced seeded riders and most of the seeds lived up to expectation.

Day 2 at Praia Grande has produced some incredible performances with clean 3 footers and blue skies setting the perfect setting for another big day of competition.
The golden run of Dino Carmo came to an end when the u/14 National Portuguese champion couldn’t find the sort of form that turned so many heads in the preceding rounds. He still did enough to stamp him as a champion of the future.

In round 6 Australia's Shaun Cooper was also eliminated after the Spanish duo of Ivan Gouvia and Christian Perez dominated from the outset. Cooper was gracious in defeat and said that he will now resume his Euro trip with his mate and camper van.

In round 7 the highest wave score of the day (9.25) was awarded to the highflying Mathieu Desaphine. The Frenchman blew minds with a near perfect invert that saw him rocket high in the air after launching off an inside ramp.

Australian Michael Novy was a notable casualty of the 7th round and couldn’t find a wave of any substance finishing 4th. It was another disappointment for the Queenslander after missing his heat in Sopelana. "Oh well. I’ll do better next time" said Novy with a smile.

At the end of round 7 the events most consistent riders have joined the Iba Top 16 for what will be an amazing showdown tomorrow morning.

The last two heats of the day saw England’s Clare McGowan and Australia’s Mandy Zieren progress and then half way through the second heat head judge Luis Ferreira called the heat a non-event due to the glare factor and it will be re-surfed tomorrow.
