Everyone met at the crack of dawn and was greeted with slightly bumpy but clean 3ft peaks coming through at Farmer Burger's reef. The morning started off slowly with the mist posing a big problem for the judges, but the riders certainly weren't slowed down by this in anyway.

Pro riders spent the most time in the water today and took full advantage of it, showing some incredible riding in the sometimes tricky conditions. Big backflips and combination maneuvers from Storm Prestwich, Tristan Roberts, Iain Campbell, Mark McCarthy, Ethan Nel and Terence Pieters saw them all through to the man on man Quarter finals which will run tomorrow. Adam Morley displayed technical skill by getting the first 10 point ride of the event with a backflip, spin, backflip combination.

The Juniors went out and threw down all they had, showing that they too could get the crowd on the beach going. Ethan Nel, Tristan Roberts, Dylan Le Roux and Garryd Ensor-Smith all with smooth riding. A special mention goes to Leslie Conzalves, a previous development riding from Lamberts bay, who has now progressed into the main event and has made it through to the semi finals.

The Mens division was as competitive as always with Johan Nortjie, Morne Laubscher, James Adams and Johan de Goede all coming out on top and making into the finals.

The Dropknee guys were having a party in the water with nice hollow sections and long open faces allowing for maximum scoring potential with barrels and huge snap all round. Iain Campbell showed his control over the backhand snap, while DVT (Dylan Van Tonder) tore apart every bump that came in his direction. Along with them, Vaughn Harris and Terence Pieters advanced through to the final.

The Ladies division saw rolls and spins and a definite growth in the sport for them. Making it through to the final is Rosie Lombard, Susan Joubert , Pamela Bowren and Georgie Mckeone.

Everyone on the beach kept refreshed and hydrated thanks to Coke and Powerade and their energy on full thanks to Future Life.

The crowd was kept informed thanks to the incredible music and commentary coming from the Coke truck.

A huge thanks goes out to Kumba for making this all possible. With the biggest prize purse on the SABA circuit, nobody is going down without a fight. This one is going to be a nail biter.

Stay tuned for more action from day 2.
