The South African Bodyboarding Association is proud to announce the South African team selected to compete in the 2012 ISA (International Surfing Association) World Bodyboarding Championship that will take place on Margarita Island, Venezuela from 24th November - 2nd December 2012. The team departs South Africa on 17th November 2012.

Venezuela will play host to the event at Playa Parguito, a left-hand beach break wave on Margarita Island; expected to provide some world-class waves. Located on the northeast of the island, Playa Parguito offers 2km of white, sandy beaches, palm trees and is open to swells from the Atlantic Ocean. As first-time hosts, Venezuela is enthusiastic about the upcoming event and will again play host to the bodyboarders in 2013.

The South African team will compete with teams from all over the world in the second stand-alone event. The championship is eagerly anticipated after last year's first independent event in the Canary Islands. Up until 2008, the bodyboarding championship was included the ISA World Surfing Games. The 2012 ISA World Bodyboard Championships is expected to be full of punchy waves and competitive riding for the top honours in bodyboarding. SABA Chairman, Michael van Huyssteen wished the team well: "We are confident that the team will do South Africa proud." A team rider generating great interest this year, is 15 year old Tristan Roberts, who won both the Boys and Pro divisions at the SA Championships this year - a feat never before achieved in the history of South African Bodyboarding.

The team recently received their National Colours from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and are being sponsored by Billabong South Africa and Zion Wetsuits:
