Does anyone know what happend about a possible word tour contest..(IBA) here in south africa. I know the INTABA raffels were going towards the cause but has there been any developments?
Yeah it's still definitely a major goal of ours to have a world tour event in SA - the Intaba project tho only raised a fraction of the funds required, so isn't going to make much of an impact there.
We are however having a big SABA event in june/july at the Durban Beach Festival, and some of the Intaba funds may be used there - but mainly, this festival has incredible media and infrastructure, and my hope is that by nurturing a successful contest there at SABA level, we can grow it into a world tour event. There are absolutely millions pumped into the festival, so if we run a tight and professional comp, there is a chance that we'd be able to plug into those resources and get better sponsorship next year. With the whole 2010 deal approaching, it's also a bit more of an incentive for SA sponsors to 'internationalise' SA bodyboarding. We'll pull it off eventually.
