    Ahoy Bones!
Personally I do not prefer channels on my boards. I ride about 90% dk and havent used channels for the last 5 years. Without channels your board is alot looser wich is good for throwing tail. You will also find that most dk boards come without channels. So in my opinion, dont worry about channels too much. It is really not that critical. Just ask Sean Tickner. He rides a Nomad Lackey model and Im sure he will give you some good advice.
    Keep ripping on the knee!!

    Hey there,

When it comes to DK Boards, what I've found is that it all comes down to personal preference. Especialy about the channels, because on DK there is a lot of weight put on your knee which is near the middle of the board on the rail, this pretty much guarentees that the rail will cut into the wave giving you a good edge as long as your knee is positioned right, and that only comes with riding DK a lot.

Now why I say personal preference is that when you have a board that is designed just for DK it usually doesn't work well for prone, because of the smaller nose and wider wide point, the board is sort of egg shaped compared to the almost rectangular shape of a prone board, but on the other hand you can transfer on a prone board, but you will lose a bit of extra performance that a DK board gives you.

On a prone board those channels will help to eleviate the missing components of a DK board, but on the DK board you may not even notice the difference between having the channels or not.

Now when you've made up your mind or need a little extra info between boards, you can just drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll get some more advice for you from some other DK specialists on their preference of boards and why.

    Cheers

The best Prone and DK board I've ever had i was a CustomX Booth. Both prone and Dk it was the business, I did find it was a fraction (about 0.5 of an inch) too long for an awesome prone board. But I could still boost on it BIG TIME. I'm sure if you spoke to one of the local board companies they'll make you a custom board....

    Hey boner,

I've ridden boards with channels and boards without.

Boards with channels are sweet for those thicker beast pits where they help you that little bit extra to hold your line on those late drops. Some people reckon they stick a bit doing turns and snaps, but, if you put enough of your gut behind it and are aggressive with your turn, you'll have no problems.

Boards without channels (like my new msee) are a lot looser. Sweet for those beachies where you want to get your tail out at any opertunity. And once you get used to putting the right amount of pressure on your rail, you'll probably want to play around with a board that has no channels anyway. But if you get into the bigger stuff (6 ft and upwards) they, in my personal experience, can let you down a bit.

But (as others have said) it is all about preference.

At the end of the day, if you trust the board you’re ridding won’t slide out at the moment of truth or in a compromising position, you’ve got a keeper.

It definitely is based on personal preference when it comes down to channels in a DK Board, here's my 2c worth.
I started DKing on a TOOBS Spec which was pretty much a prone board, gull wing tail and channels. My last 5-6 Boards have all been strictly DK and I don't think any of them have had channels. Plus, I rode MENS in the Wedge Contest last year and managed pretty well on a DK Board!
At the moment i'm riding a NOMAD LACKEY, it goes really well and I don't feel like i'm missing anything by not having channels. If you are confident enough in your riding and "if you put enough of your gut behind it and are aggressive with your turn, you'll have no problems" as Adam said then it's all good.
Just know that every now and again, no matter how deep your channels are, there will be waves that you'll still get beaten by trying to DK! That's what makes it fun, go out there and try tame them!
