    Hey all,

Living in mud-island (UK) at the moment but am looking to get back into b/boarding. I am a larger rider (112kg) and currently have a BZ Big Bruddah back in SA. I am quite happy with it.

I want to import a new board from the States, but don't want to get the same make specifically.

Some other message boards have suggested No.6 Goliath which looks sick but I don't know much about the brand.
Also looking at Science and Custom X.
Every time I post on a US site the SEPPO's go on about buying a US brand etc etc ad norsium!!!!

Any ideas from back home please. I could do with some expertise before I spend all my cash on a new board.

I'd recommend getting in touch with a shaper and having a word about a custom board.

Either get hold of Rossi http://www.rossiboards.co.za or Al Taylor http://www.altaylordesigns.co.za - all their contact details are on their websites. They're both at SA Champs for the next week though but I'm sure they'll spare a moment if you give them a call on their cell phones.

Rossi has years of experience and produces some top quality boards - which are also available in the UK but I'd suggest looking at a custom model if you reckon you need a bit more bouyancy. Al Taylor has recently launched his company and has had some great reviews on the boards which have been sold through us. Of interest to you should be his X-Cell core which I believe is something which Al has got his hands on exclusively. Have a read on his site about it but for you, you may be interested in the fact that it is apparantly really bouyant which I'm sure will help the bigger guys.

You can buy directly from both manufacturers, however, I know with ATD at least for overseas orders you need to go through us at http://www.factory7.co.za if you want to pay by credit card. I'm sure Rossi will make a plan for you though - or I suggest http://www.1stcontact.co.uk to transfer cash into a bank account in SA (£10 transaction fee) - bank transfer is his standard payment method.

The rand/pound exchange rate is in your favour at the moment and we (http://www.factory7.co.za) have sold a few boards to the UK recently. Delivery has tended to be 1 week from date of shipping.

If you're after a board from the States then give http://www.toobs.com as another option - they've always been pretty good with their customs.

If you're interested in stock boards - take a look at http://www.factory7.co.za, although we are a bit limited on options for the larger riders:

BZ Hubb 42.5" - designed for bigger riders and might interest you to get onto the Hubb template.
Science - the biggest we have are 42.25" in the Pro Comp and MS8.
ATD - all the ATD stock boards are available in 43" options and include the X-Cell core mentioned above.

If none of those interest you then either have a word with Derek +27 83 488 3916 or email him at [email protected] and he'll see if he can get hold of the distributors and see what is available in a size you're after.

I hope you find the board you're after!

    hey there,

I live over in the UK aswel, I bought a Al Taylor board through the Factory 7 site, was cheap and arrived in good time.I cant praise Factory 7 high enough. The board is really bouyant, in fact trying to duck dive is a mission to be honest.

If you are not keen on buying a board form SA or the USA , give Dave heard a call down at the Bodyboard HQ in Portreath, they have a site up, Dave will give you plenty of advice ( which is free ) and he doesnt force you to buy a thing from his shop, he is stoked on bodyboarding and helping anyone out, he is also one of the top UK bodyboarders and is an alround cool friendly guy.

Make a trip down to Portreath and watch the guys rip the Wall apart, the dudes who surf the Wall are quite possibly the best UK spongers around, even the standups get out the water and watch these guys.

Anyways, now that the UK surf season is finally upon us, if you are keen for a wave PM me, I head down to North Devon and North Cornwall every weekend even if its onshore 2ft slop or 6ft offshore heaven. I am not the best of spongers but hey always interested in scoring a few waves with some guys from SA.

Anyways, give the Al Taylor board a try, I got one and love it, even though I can hardly duck dive with it ( makes for some hectic moments ) but the speed and general handling of the board are great.

Shot for the advice. I have settled for the No.6 Goliath and am waiting delivery. I understand they have a recurring problem with their rails.

Does anybody know if this is true?
