Board prices are really dictated by the fact that either the boards are imported or the materials to make them are imported and obviously the strength of the Rand has a lot to do with it too. In other countries, the price of a board in comparison to your wage is a lot less than in SA.
For many of us money is a factor and you should speak to the guys at the store to try find out which board is going to perform the best and last. No use buying a board which goes well for one week, creases heavily and then you're stuck with a creased board for a year.
If you're looking for something that will last and is a good price then throw ATD
http://www.altaylordesigns.co.za into the equation, with his new X-Cell core this may be a board that will last a bit longer than most plus it is on special at the moment. There are also some imports which are really well priced nowadays.
If you are looking for a board then now is probably the best time to get a one as it is usually a slow period and with restocking for Christmas season around the corner, everyone has sales on at the moment ... and we're doing the same at
http://www.factory7.co.za where we have up to 30% off on all our boards.
If you want to support your local store then go for it - go and have a word with them and if you can find it cheaper elsewhere then I'm sure they'll try match it. Otherwise if you can't find a local store which is worth supporting then visit
http://www.factory7.co.za - if you need to speak to someone, visit the contact page where you can find Derek's contact details.
