I personally hate wetsuits, never had 1 on yet...ever,they look mighty uncomfortable...But with winter on the way i have to get1.Anyway im thinking of going with the short sleeve, short pipe wetsuit but wanted to know if that is good enough for the winter or should i go with a full(long sleeve) suit....the only reason i want a short sleeve is cause it looks better but if it a waste of $ then please let me know. Also what is the difference and price difference between a wetsuit and a dry suit???

dude, a dry suit is 4 serious diving.. with big masks and all, cant have 1 of those 4 boogying.. and it depends how cold the water is, if in durban, buy a shorty, and if in cape-town, move to durban.. awehness

warren go get a full suit, 4/3 reef, (suppor tthe sports sponsers -- REEF all the way) we all wear them here in the cape, its the only way to get through winter and atlantic summers, dont worry about how cool you look, to a non surfer, we all look like sadomasocistic freaks anyways, bring on the rubber, bring out the gimp.

Unless you plan to surf ireland or norway forget about the dry suit, you wont be able to afford it anyways.

    4/3 = 4mm/3mm

4mm round the torso, 3mm arms and legs.

The thinner it is, the easier to move and paddle but thicker = warmer. You do get 5/4 or 5/4/3 (I think) ... I haven't done much time in Cape Town but I have survived an UK winter in a 4/3 so it should do the trick.

from my experience the way to go is definately a reef 4/3 , maybe a science but never ever under any circumstances a lizzard or billabong wettie
