What would be a good pair of fins to start with or are they all pretty much the same.Got me a pair of AQUA LINE fins yesterday morning and they made a hell of a difference.By the 2nd session(around 6)I lost the one in the water. One of the waves ripped it off from my left foot.I need to know about different fins.Maybe i took the wrong size but it feel really tight, not to tight though. Are there any fins that dont come of,EVEN IN HARSH WAVES.

Any make of fins will come off if the conditions are harsh enough...
If you check out your local surf shop they might have fin-savers, they're kind of like a leash for your fins, a little rubber and velcro loop/strap like a leash that goes around each ankle with a nylon loop that loops around your fin so if it comes off it'll stay attached to your leg so you can pull it back on, the guys at your local surf shop should explain exactly how to attach it...

Otherwise the cheaper alternative is to find an old pair of shoe laces, tie a knot in the middle of each one leaving a loop and loop that around your fin and then tie the two ends in a double bow or slip-knot around your ankles when you're surfing so if your fins come off they're tied to you...

As for make of fins? They'll all come off and everyone prefers different makes, lookout for Churchill Slashers for being the most comfortable otherwise they're all different and haves strengths and weaknesses accordingly...

my boet lost one of his vipers last week saturday when his fin saver snapped while surfing at gassies. this saturday we were walking along the beach and we found his viper lying up on the beach about 200m away from where he lost it. it still had some water in and looked pretty good, still very flexible just a bit salty, it wasnt buried in the sand although you could see that the wind had been blowing so it must have washed up the night before. we washed it in fresh water rubbed in some vaseline and it was ready to go. my boet was so chuffed. moral of the story - vipers float

Yeah, Vipers are sick, they float so wll and the spot is super visible...
I dunno if it's country wide but the Billabong concept store at Gateway up here had a sale last week and Vipers were marked down from R630 to R200 which is the cheapest I've ever seen them...

Some good fins too look out for are those Hot Buttered Octo Blades, cheap and comfy plus with the shorter blade theyre excellent gor dk.
Others are Redleys, POD and Churchill Makapu (The original swim fins for bodyboarding),

At the moment Im using Custom X fins which are alright but give a nice kick,

Really wanna get me some vipers but theyre so damn expensive

Most makes of decent fins will cost you between R400-R600..
Sometimes you might happen upon a deal like the one I mentioned up above so keep an ear to the ground...
I'm not sure of exact prices cos down there seems to be a lil different to up here in KZN... I think there are some fins available on
http://www.factory7.co.za so maybe check that out...

:D Without a doubt, the best fins in the Bodyboarding Universe are Toobs Bluntcut! Soft, comfy foot, short rounded blade for thrust and EXCELLENT for Drop-knee. BUT unavailable in SA as far as I know but trying to find out if TOOBS will send any to our Sunny Shores!
Keep riding bud, as you progress you'll learn many new things, which fins you like, which boards you like, which conditions work for which spots and once you start The ROAD TRIPS you'll see there's a whole new world Bodyboarding will open up for you!!!
