KellyMarch 2006Hi Kole,
What contact do you have at supersport? And what are you trying to get them to try cover?
Best option would be to get them to cover an event --- the Cave Rock is the next contest and it would be the contest with the best appeal, with a contest window and 32 of SA's top riders competing.
Suggest you go to
http://www.sabaonline.co.za and drop an email via the contact form. This will go to Al Taylor who is involved in running the event.
If you have a decent contact then please act quick - the event is only around the corner.
Al can send some marketing materials which they have.
Thanks for the efforts!
Cheers,
Kelly

Howzit Cole,
Speak to your contact at supersport and ask him if it would help if you got get the entire event shot on broadcast quality camera, and then just give him the footage. I am fliming most of the SA Events on either 1 or sometimes 2x 3ccd Canon Camera's. If its going to be televised, I am happy to donate footage. Events that am filming that still have to be run this year are the wedge classic, SA's, and the Margate comp.
I hope this helps!

Ya speak to him.

KellyMarch 2006Best option for the sport is to have a bodyboarding videographer like Peter involved - so please do pass the info on. They know how to shoot bodyboarding and what is good and what's not - so they or someone else in the know should also somehow be involved in the editing. We need to portray the extreme side of the sport and that is why I say Cave Rock is the contest which should be shot --- or the Big Wave event at Bay View.

or you can send them pics of hugh grant. my sister says he really is that hot.
Good luck with the "campaign" though. I reckon with all the home movies being made a good editor could put together a sick demo with some decent contributions. Ill chip in a couple hundred bucks and some footage if theres enough interest and if some of you okes will do the same. Anyone know anyone studying film production?

jeez, sidebar.. u legend you.. ya i'll also chip in some bucks, or bake a choclate cake 4 the administators..

I think Side bar has a sweet idea......all the vidou's should pool their footage...and put together an expose, like a sick demo, of what's going down in our industry....Al Taylor can do some commentary on it (as he is chairman) or if he looks a bit chips on camera, then use Huge "Heffner" Grant....if he's pretty enough. But my point is the vid can become a tool to be used to land some TV time or even if Al or whoever wanted to approach the big fat corporations for sponsorship....but it would have to be a FRIGGIN RAVENOUS production....THE SICKEST OF SICK , editing, music, footage ect. so when our boys go fish for the big deals, they have some serious ammo.........so the cash-cows know BODYBOARDING IS THE STUFF, IT'S HERE TO STAY FOR SURE AND OUR PRO'S MAKE THE STAND-UPS LOOK NANCY!!!
The vid can also be sold to raise funds for a Bodyboarding marketing campaign budget......It can be sold through the Provincial BBing Associations.....
Peace out!!
By the way P.O.D.'s new album "Testify" is the stuff......

THAT SOUNDS SICK. i spoke to him last nite and ppl must rememeba that
having 1 minute on tv is thousands. so we need to rak some big sponsors togetha to fund all of this. im going to break my piggy bank open and pray 4 the best. however a demo should be collaborated of all the best of the best riders we have got. cuz on national tv ppl do want to see some 1 doing flop rolls and poo spins they want 2 actually go wow these guy actually are the shiz and can intertain ppl just like surfing some how does!

KellyMarch 2006All good suggestions ... including from the man who once did 5 DK 360's in a row ... that's what legends are made of!
I know Peter is busy with Lines of Fire ... but Jared, Peter or Colin - any of you interested (I'll email you this link). Or maybe you can pool together??
Looks like a few guys willing to finance this (promo vid). Good stuff guys. Maybe use this post to ...
1. Find out if any of the videographers are keen.
2. Find out how much it will cost to produce.
3. Find out who is keen on contributing to costs.
4. Find out who else can get involved --- since it is a marketing DVD maybe someone has some marketing experience?

broadcasting, is an excellent way of marketing in the media. It could mean radical change in mindsets about bodyboading.
If bodyboarding gets recognized and respected, it would shine a positive light on our sport. More people would want to do it..because more people would know about it. A passion and dedication could grow all over the country. That would mean more boards and apparel and logic's getting sold, more enties for the compo's, ous pushing each other to be better, to create more styles and teqniques. Better performance in the international competetive sector from South Africa. (like our homie boy, brandon).
Overall the florishing and innovation of something we have discovered to be the best thing since sliced bread. It keep you fit, stoked, thankful and happy and tanned, try living in london for a few years and it will all be clear to you)...
but don't under estimate the hard work, time and money it would take. great breakthrough comes with great effort. Get involved. Everyone has something to contribute. if u dead broke and can't contribute in a multi media kind of way (if you can't flippen draw to save your life) tune and convince someone outside the water, how cief our sport is. Stand up for bodyboarding !! too many times I ve heard ous go-- u sponger, when u gona stand up!!? well i say : stuf u fat bastard, im a frog on toast and i love it!!
...
and yes, i know what some of you are thinking.. more people in the line up.... remember the ocean is big, adventure is never ending- so go explore !!

KellyMarch 2006Frog on toast! Haven't heard that one before ... made me laugh.
Anyway ... since we're on the subject of documentaries ... take a look at these two.
Joy Ride:
http://www.current.tv/studio/media/251836
Favela Surf Dreams:
http://www.current.tv/studio/media/486391
Kole --- maybe your buddy from Supersport may be interested. If so he can contact the producers through
http://www.bboarderdoc.com or we could get onto them.
But those I'm guessing are on the lines of what he is looking for, if he is keen on development material and if someone does put something together then they could take a few tips from these two documentaries.
I'd suggest that SABA ask the producers if they can use these to package onto a promotional CD in the meantime while we don't have our own. "Joy Ride" is a history of the sport so will always be relevant anyway.

ive been thinking about it. If site admin or saba etc would open a bank account we could all deposit funds into the account. even if each oke puts in only R50 you would have a good start. think about it - okes will pay R500 for vipers and 1000's for boards so how much would national exposure be worth to us. you could call the account boogers united and feature the names of all contributors in the credits of the demo/dvd.
(and hugh can bake each guy a chocolate cake)

Now Now boys keep it clean!!
It's a very cool thing when people start brainstorming........I think the bank account idea is a cool one.......
What we need is a few charity events......like concerts with some top bands......a full-on promo road show......around the country......
Ambush marketing is the way to go for-sure........like how about a few sit-in protests.....that always gets the media's attention.......lets protest somewhere....like outside the friggn' parlimant against the discrimination of BBers in the water (might be a bit gay, like we're bitching) or lets do a 52hr surf sesh for the Guinness book of records......or get some luni to base-jump off Table Mountain with BBrd, fins and wettie or lets get signs and flags promoting a website or whatever and stand at the cricket or rugby or comrades marathon......stand outside surf shops....dish-out flyers........whatever......but if we want to get recognition we need to get noticed/seen....our campaign in whatever LEGAL form it might take, must be foremost in the minds of the public.......Like that bogus political party with the dog poster...that would have been clever if they were advertising something....but putting up posters on lamp-posts without permission is illegal.....but the idea was there....
Hey I got one for the guinness book, but it would have to be planned very well for safety, like a cage or whatever......get this......an endurance paddle to Robin Island and back......or a paddle around the peninsula, like a tag relay, from one beach to the next......huh?! That would kick-ass!!!
You ou's are getting me pumped!!!! Come-on fellow sponge-heads lets get some momentum going here....hey...wait a minute.....Momentum life insurance......our sport is all about momentum.....lets approach them with some possible partnership/sponsorship ideas.....
BBING RULES......NO DOUBT!!!
KellyMarch 2006All good ideas.
I think SABA needs a marketing sub-committee and a few of you guys sound like perfect candidates.
Sidebar, Chinnychinchin, Scribble? Up for it? All of this needs some sort of organisation and you seem way keen to use the forum to get guys thinking and contributing ideas which is where a lot will come from.
You guys are CT based which allows for meetings if need be and Sally Mellish SABA's Vice-Chair is in CT.
If you're amped ... shout and I'll put you onto Sally & Al. Get the bank account set-up (I'll look into a Paypal subscription service --- not sure if they accept SA cards, but for UK and expats £5/month may not be a lot)
Cheers,

WOO HOO! this sounds pretty sicK! my balli foned me today and chooned me when he went to CNA to buy the new logic they chooned him the logic has been discontinued! what the f*&^k?? thats not sick! well hopefully wen movement comes to s.a it wont be like 60 bucks!! ggrrr
KellyMarch 2006Logic has not been discountinued - the new mag is out and if you're having trouble finding it near you then sort out a subscription with them. You can also pick up a copy at
http://www.factory7.co.za OR get a free copy with any order. At the moment we have not received the new Logic stock yet but look for it being up soon.
We should be running an aritcle on Logic soon --- something to get a bit of information out to everyone.
When Movement arrives, they'll be selling as cheap as they can with a fair bit going back into the sport. They've already sponsored Cave Rock.
SmTMarch 2006Puku, you MAD man!
Go tell your Dad to KAK on the MORON from CNA that told him that, wait till you get a new copy and go show them!
Like Kelly said, LOGIC's still going strong so keep supporting it.
Kill two birds with one stone by ordering it from Factory7, supporting bodyboarding all the way!
MOVEMENT Mag is definitely the sickest Mag, if the US version stays with the same format as the Aussie publication I would buy it regardless ( but hope it is nice and cheap) I'd rate it better than Riptide.
Can't wait to see what happens at Cave Rock this Winter, yeehaaa!

Hey Guys
Really stoked all you guys are amped on getting this up and running.
Peter Lambert - Hey man that's sounds perfect. Supersport are so fussy, so if you are shooting on 3CCD cameras thats perfect.
I'm working in London for the next couple of months and am very keen on sorting this whole production out when I'm back to SA. I've already been putting together heaps of graphics for these productions - to be used for broadcast or to be used in my next vid.
Working on buying a whole lot of new equipment at the moment.
Found a new device here in London which will allow for 5 hours record time via a headcam, thats nuts! Imagine.. Hopefully hook up with MR. TaYLOR AND get some tube shots soon.
Brilliant idea on using Mike for audio.
I could even start putting together this production from this side.
Any ideas / feedback let me know.
HEYYY hows how the surfing industry has got nailed. Clark foam has been held responcible for causing damage to the environment. "Global warming" so Surfboard Prices are set to jump 400%. Bodyboarding revolution about to kick in. Apparently Clark foam are used in 80% of surfboards around the world. Hopefully this isn't the same with Polyprop??
Anyone know?
Godbless.
