Does any1 know how to narrow down your search on(http://www.waveguru.cz).I can get wind direction, wave direction etc for Cape Town, but how do i get info for Strand beach(Melkbaai),Bikini beach or Camps Bay.
Unfortunately you can't. You just have to know the direction of the swell and wind and put it in context with the spot you want e.g if the swell is 4.5m in a SW direction and the wind is 15kts then hoek on a low tide will be about 6-8' and melkbos will be about 5-7'.
You just goto know your spots but if it helps for now subscribe to the wavescape.co.za surf report and it kinda gives you a low down on the spots and regions.

yeah what dane said, its more an indication of the general conditions, with experiance you will learn what works when and in what conditions. I am old school, and well when i started the internet didnt exsisit, we had to rely on tich pauls thumbsucking surf reports and the clouds on the mountains, that was about it. Sign up for geography in school bru, you will learn how to read synoptic charts, get an understanding of how the weather works, sign up for spikes report, or better yet go on spikes swell forcasting coarse... its well worth the money.

Have a look at windfinder.com, go to the station closest to the beach you want to forecast, click on it, and then click on wind forecast. To me this site is sometimes more useful than buoyweater site (gasp) because you can get a 7 day forecast and you can get data for other regions on the coast without having to pay or have a logon. As has been mentioned before local knowledge helps, and if you want to be sure, try combine date from several different forecast sources, local knowledge, and don't forget a phone call to a local never hurts either, unless they are the size of Naas Botha and its five in the morning.
