Was reading the new Logic mag and saw that they printed a sick picture of Kalk Bay DK king Michael Quillinan sliding through a glassy barrel.
But then to my horror I see his name printed as William Mc Quillan...

Thats a typo for the record books. hahahah

    Hey guys :D

Yes guys i think the Logic boys have been working a bit over time or maybe its just the festive mood kicking in

Another thing, my buddy submitted a photo which i have taken, which features in the reader's pics section. The picture is of a friend Razaan taking a decent wave at Noordhoek. Anyways the reason why im mentioning this is because when a buddy of mine submitted it he indicated the name of the photographer, which is me :D but i see it has never been published alongside the pic :( I see the other pics have the photographers name next to it besides the one i took :( Anyways just thought i'd cry bout that  But im just stoked that a pic i took appeared in Logic! Big up to the boys :D

    Ahoi

Great mag big up to the guys @ logic. Great pics from everybody, but be fair give credit where it's due, we always refering to "support those who support the sport"
How about supporting and or giving credit to those guys who try to take a pic or 2, we all not pro's but give us chance,
Recognise the jnr photographers, we just as amped to get that great pic..like the spy dudes and peter lambert do...

How about having a section or even a page or two for pics from amature photographers. It would surely increase sales if I knew my friends pic was in this mag.

I submitted that pic Tauriq's talking about and the girl in the pic alomost every1 in her family purchased a mag just tooo see the pic.

Think about it guys, 'Support those who Support the sport"

    Till the next typo....

    Hey Rolo,
That's exactly what the Readers Pics are for, to showcase unknown talent both as photogs and riders!
How many more FREE pages are you looking for?
Of course everyone's amped to see pics of themselves in the mag but again it comes down to personal preference, some think it's HOT other's NOT???
Don't try bring up the whole SUPPORT those story, LOGIC is a HUGE supporter of SA Bodyboarding, no denying it!
Think back when there wasn't a MAG!!!!
There were NO Pics, AT ALL!!!

    Hey SmT
Sup bro. Nah im sure we get what u saying about some dont want those pics in. Im sure rolo has good intentions and is just voicing his opinion, after all, isnt that what these forums are about.

The suggestion made by rolo surely suits unknown talented riders and photographers and admitadly it would seem like a bad idea to the pro's who appear regularly in the mag. However he does make a good point there. Say u a newbie to bodyboarding and u get ur pic published in a mag, as rider or photographer, whatever, Naturally he will get most excited about it and get he's buddies checking it out. This could spark an increase intrest in the mag and the sport.

But all in all Craig and the logic team doing a fab job and yes it has been a tedious time for all boarders when there was no BB mag out after SA Bodyboarding closed shop. Keep up the good work.

    Peace
    BRU

Craig is a legend and he is doing heaps for the sport. He has personally helped me out several times, and continues to do so. Nevertheless I feel that it is important that Logic recognise the people out there who put in time and effort to provide images. These guys do it for free, and the least that they should get in return is their name next to the image they provide. In the latest Logic, 3 of my images where used for a the Sport Unlimited Advert and there was no photo credit next to the pics. I know how you guys feel and agree that this should happen. I don't want to loose sight of all the good that Craig and Logic is doing for our sport, but I feel that credit for photos is a no brainier. If we get things right at grass-roots level, the sport will just grow and grow!

    Hey Peter,
Know what it's like, also had a shot that wasn't credited but I know in my Heart it's mine, haha!
    Craig's a busy man!
    Completely off the subject,
Recently had a couple OLD(1989) US Bodyboarding Mags come into my posession, funniest thing ever.
Kainoa Mcgee was 18 and was still growing!
Paul Roach was someone to keep your eye on, so was 16yr old Tamega!
    Jay Reale was owning it!
Short Shorts and neoprene "web"gloves were the ONLY way you'd get waves!
Laughed so hard, going to try scan a couple shots and post them, hahaha!

SmT i understand what you saying, but think about this, a pro gets his pic and the mag, how many of his buddies are going to buy it?
An unknown up and coming rider gets a pic in the mag,u do the math.Im sure there'd be stoked and get the world to buy the book.
let me give an idea:This particular pic which i submitted,to date 9 books were purchased, compared to the usual 1/2 that we buy amongst our crew.
A pro aint gana bother whether or not his in the mag he aint getting anything for it. :D

Tee good idea, i think you should fwd it to the LOGIC guys.

Bakerzakes, dnt hate buddy, come more with us and your pic will also get published...

its not that easy dudes, trust me i know, hence the readers page section.
You gotta understand advertising and all the shit that comes with pros and photos, who owns what.. like dont expect your name on an advert, the client should have paid for the rights to use the photos and thus there is no obligation to put your name there, unless it has otherwise been arranged.
Then there is the difference between true quality work and average work. I know craig is very fussy when it comes to everyone elses work, he doesnt like drops in front of the face, the exposures have to be bang on the the focus crystal clear.
Then there is the moral fact.... do you want to give away precious real estate in a mag to someone who shot his buddy with a disposable or a 3 mp cam in a flat housing... as opposed than running a pro shot by an established photog who makes his bread and butter from his trade.
I have hit all the barriers mentioned above, i lost my faith in the whole SA surfing and bodyboarding magazine scene a long time ago. I spent thousands shooting dudes having fun in the waves, and was never really rewarded for my efforts.
Now i shoot for myself first, then websites liek wavescape and sixty 40, then overseas mags and finaly for you, the booger in the water. Everything is for sale, just to who is the question.
eg: look at that shoot i got from off the wall, it was an experiment with light and speed on my behalf and the results were really trippy, but because i know craigs criteria when selecting shots i never bother to submit them. Then the wavescape film festival art and photography exhibit kicks off and what do i see coming from the top man in our profession - Lance Slabbert, but work that is on the same lines i did at off the wall, only difference was his shots were selling at R5000 and mine at R400.... i had to laugh, but that is the reality of the industry.
All i can say to you guys is keep at it, get a good understanding of the principals of photography, work to upgrade your equipment and just keep submiting to 60/40 and logic, heck even try the overseas mags, but beware the use your work and hardly ever pay let alone send you a copy of the mag with your work in it...SEAN MANING from ROT mag, yeah buddy you know the deal.
