Bodyboarding TV???

    :?:
Can anyone possibly explain to me how an entire 30minutes on Supersport can be dedicated to LONGBOARD TV, plus the actual show looks pretty old and it's quiet a regular show as well???
How can it be that Longboarding is more of an attraction than Bodyboarding in this country? Surely there are more Bodyboarders out there?
Excuse my ignorance but couldn't we start a petition or something and try appeal to Supersport to support a local production or something to that extent???

I've emailed Colin van Dongen ( http://www.probe.co.za ) who has a few contacts at Supersport, asking him to reply with thoughts on the issue.

I really don't have the first idea of how it works BUT they can't run 30 minute Bodyboarding programmes if they don't exist - so why not produce a 30 minute pilot and hand it to them? A few of the videographers around have some DVD's they're working on at the moment but afterwards why not take a look into this? Maybe it could bring in some regular cash if you could organise a bi-monthly episode for example?

And once you've set-up all the graphics and layout surely subsequent episodes will not be as much hard work as the original?

Above all - any sport needs TV coverage so we should all back an effort to get some coverage on Supersport. If anyone is going to put the effort in then let us know so we can try get you support - arranging interviews & shoots with top riders, getting footage off other videographers etc.

    Hey!

I am keen to interview pro bodyboarders and put something together so we can promote the sport! we must try though to get sponsors by the local surf shops as, putting quality things like bodyboarding on TV will cost! if we get sponsors we will advertise who sponsored, on the video!! So what we could do is like have an interview and then show the intuview riding and demonstrating tricks and tips and stuff or we could just show competitions and interview the people in the comp!! (kindof the layout of the billabong pro). say what the surf is like and etc....

just a contribution to those who support bodyboarding!!

 We need the local producers to work together, select someone as a representative and come up with a pitch to show both Advertisers and Supersport. Why not try gather support from companies not usually associated with the sport, i've also heard rumours about P&P and i'm looking forward to hearing more facts tho!

Ok guys. what's up? this is how it works with Supersport. Longboarding has huge contacts with Oxbow in France and they pay a fortune into the sport which is why it is being broadcasted. No money no honey cuzzies.

You do not get paid for putting shows on Tv, you have to find the sponsors that are willing to support your sport, and go and organise contracts with them which could run into R40K per show. Mnet charge aronud R5000 just for the show to be broadcasted.

Unfortunately I'm currently moving to the UK in the next month. I have been organising for the entire year to try and get bodyboarding on TV, and have two friends of mine that are interested in taking over the circiut for tv if a sponsor is found. I'm still going to carry on handling the graphics from the Uk for these projects if they take place. This is all dependant if PicknPay come on board. We still havent heard from them about sponsoring the tv shows.

I've organised another contact of mine to do some stuff for an extreme sport show he is handeling. It sux with the contraversy and politics in sport. Quiksilver, Volcom Gotcha etc, will never pump money into bodyboarding for a tv show. So its pretty much up the administration to organise cash for tv and the tv producers to get the shows broadcasted.

Bodyboarding companies need to stop pocketing and start delivering if this is going to happen.

Got the best waves of my life in Gland, got killa footage of dreamland shorebreak. Hope to surf with all you guys soon.

Bodyboarders need to start supporting bodyboarding companies properly!!! And then maybe this can happen!

:P Hey Colin, stoked you back and you got waves, but what's that about going to Pommieland??? Oh well, hope it goes well!
Thanks for showing how much it'll take to get Coverage but I wish all this info and the suggestions were making an impact on the people who could really make a difference, like the BigWigs of Big Corporations that could support our sport? If anyone knows any details with regards to the P&P story please let us know???
 It's just so frustrating to have a sport you love not getting the respect it deserves!!!

What if all the major local videos (Lines of Fire; Probe; Southern Most Hope; The Project etc. etc.) had a marathon run on Supersport (i.e. played back-to-back).

It wouldn't take that much time and if SS were given a sample tape they might be interested in what the sport has to offer and consider the documentation of the SABA circuit...

    Just a thought

Get the best stuff from all the videos and make a 15 minute promo of bodyboarding, and then find a sponsor to pay for the airtime?

    Sounds good.

With regards to what is going on - we have not given up and are renegotiating with them with the help of SSA. There will be a definative answer very shortly and you will all be told - so hold thumbs it all works out in our favour!
