Think the out of towners think BIG WAVES are anything bigger than a 6ft toothpick.
Tru waves do get big upcountry. But to get the real thing, you need to do it in the Western Province. And I start lookin when its more than normal BIG, ie when the outer reefs start breaking.
EG Bayview Hermanus starts to "crumble" only at 6ft. Breaking nicely, is only when it is lots bigger. Elands is great when its 8ft+ constant. Heaven, west coast, when you cab park a double decker bus in the Barrel. Stillbay, southern coast, when you surf it from the backline - half a Km out to sea from the piont, all the way past the harbour. And then some more secret spots inbetween......
