Shark attack at Dunes...AGAIN!!!

    March 2005
Myself, jp N and peter lambert went to noordhoek for a surf this morning. the waves were a clean 4ft. We paddled out at and surfed for about 2hours. On our way back to the car park..we saw a large group of people in the parking lot... We got to the top and and found about 4 ambulances arriving. A scotish surfer that had arrived last night from scotland had paddled out at about 7:45am. While surfing he saw the shark approaching him and fended it off by kicking it...it came back again and gouged his calf mussle..! he got to the beach, where luckly there was a doctor...soooo lucky!! He was stablelised and never lost conciounsness throughout the whole ordeal! A helicopter was brought in and he was airlifted to constansiaburg hospital.
NOW.. i've noticed something that has occured in both attacks at dunes...
The attacks have both occured the day after a cold front had passed cape town and has been the first day of a SE wind to blow after the onshores from the cold front..? Mmmm, mabye some nice fish swim up and down the beach and some "bigger" fish follow them?

    Anyway,
    Cheers

Some lucky dude he did't get killed. He would have been safer surfing the Scottish waters. Down under here in Oz we have had a bad season for shark attacks, about four deaths not all surfers one diver at least. But considering the coastline which is hughmungus! you still have more chance of getting killed on the road. Anyway I live on Straddie in Queensland a bit of a sharky spot and wont say I like surfing with a crowd but it feels safer with a couple of others out espcially when I'm flapping about with fins on.

    Dude

Those *huge swear word* cage diving Monkeys!!!!

There's gotta be a way to stop them man, I scheme they are the soul cause for the increase of shark attacks in the Capetown area.
I scheme we should tie one of those dudes to a Sponge and drag him around behind a boat like a piece of live bait and see what happens...... maybe then they will think twice about chuming

chumming is a small part of the problem, the whole operation and the constant association with humans over the past 10 yrs is the bigger picture. But because our government says cage diving has no effect on the sharks behaviour..and this is the same governemnt that has twice said that the zim elections are free and fair cos bobby mugabie is either paying or blowing mbeki, so who to beleive.
Absolutly nothing you can do other than pray to god you dont get chowed on your next surf, either than or give up surfing and take up lawn bowls. Alteast our government has banned the feeding of babbons which has resulted in them not attacking humans any more.

They shouldn't have to commission a study to figure that one out. They're protected now which means no hunting (not that I'm saying this was good) and now you've got kippies from all over the world coming on holiday to pat them on the nose etc ... so why would they be scared of humans!!! Mess with the wild, then you have start playing by their rules!!! Sad fact is that it's the guys protected by their boats and cages, but we're the cats with our legs dangling in the water ...
