PIPE CONTEST CANCELLED - DO YOU KNOW WHY....

  • February 2005
    :?:
Well one of the major events got cancelled this year due to a certain event that happened previously at the contest which was formly know as Pipe Masters....so why was it cancelled you will be asking yourself....

Myself and many other bodyboarders belive that this was a a major thumbs up for bodyboarding over the years, but this is no more... People used to enjoy coming from around the world to watch and try make it through to the contest, which was the ultimate dream for pretty much any kid that bodyboards....but now this is no longer...

If you were at the last contest that was held at Piipe you would recall a surfer that padled out in the middle of a heat.... remember that ? Well if not its as follows.... :?:

Durring one of the heats at the Pipe contest a surfer paddled out and a bit of friction started. Kainoa ends up paddling out and lays a few punchs into him and eventually gets him out of the water, despite leaving this for the life gaurds who were present... If this was not enough they have to continue with this surfer on the beach and beat the c**p out of him...

So why lower yourself and do this? First of all the proves nothing as you are just showing what an idiot you are. We are all out there to have fun at the end of the day no matter what we do. Fine he was in the wrong, but does he deserve to has the sh*t kicked out him?Maybe some will say yes and someone will agree no. BUT the main reason lies due to the fact that they did this infront of the whole contest !!!! There are kids, parents. tourists, lifegaurds etc.

So what do you think kind of reflectiont his gives to bodyboardiing? People see us as ruthless agressive people that cant have fun and if i was a dad i wouldnt want my kid to do that sport, its a bad vibe and leads to trouble not FUN ! So as you can see the surfer and lifegaurds etc reported back to the council about this event and they pulled the plug. Peak season big fights... obvious they will cancel the contest.. cause they dont want fights and bad behaviour on the island... esp when there are tourists around...

I believe that Kaino and the other chap should be sorted out for ruining it for bodyboarders all over the world for who knows how long ! They are the cause of this and people are too scared to punish them for what they have caused to our sport! Thanks guys for ruining it for me...

I have seen this inmany contest where people know its wrong, but to scared to stand up to there friends which leads to other people getting the unfair end of it...

Face the fact and if you want bodyboarding to get somewhere, its best you start getting the attitude right !!!

    Peace and god bless
    Mark

I was at Pipe when the guy got beat up. It made me feel uncomfortable seeing it and I felt sorry for the guy. But. What happened was that the surfer false cracked Kainoa with a left right to the face when Kainoa paddled up to him. If a guy punches you in the face a couple of times you either defend yourself or run away. Kainoa did what most of us would do in defending himself. The guy getting smacked down on the beach should not have happened but it was a result of his cheap shots to Kainoa. The Da Hui Beach Patrol was trying to get him off the beach and he refused and a pushing and shoving thing happened and then the guy got totaled. I worried about what people watching would think. I felt somewhat embarresed because I'm a local. I purposely didn't take any pictures of what was going down because of that.

Because I live on Oahu I got involved with trying to get the Honolulu City & County to reconsider. It went nowhere, but nobody said anything about that incident being relevant to their decision althogh I wondered privately if that had anything to do with them not approving the permit.

Nobody likes what happened with the Pipe contest being cancelled. Live and learn. It's time to move on. I feel like something is missing this season because we don't have the Pipe to look forward too, but the bodyboarders that went to Maui for the Rockstar Games Pro Honolua Bay were all stoked! Now it's time to work on getting the Pipe contest approved for next year.
