Practice!

    Hi,

I recently discovered Bodyboarding and last saturday i had a fricking blast at Muizenberg because the waves were just perfect (imho) for learning how to board..this was probably very rare because this whole week and according Wavescape up untill after the weekend the wind will be coming from S or SSE (which is apparently bad for the waves in False Bay. Note: I'm REALLY green in all this matter) Nevertheless, i never ever did a sport that was so addictive as bodyboarding up untill now and before i go back to Europe in January i want to enjoy it as much as possible. But where can i practice without being hammered (atlantic) when Muizenberg isn't worth going? Somewhere around Table Bay perhaps?

Thanks in advance. BTW: I live in Obs, CT.

    Cheers

A nice place to learn is Melkbos, it can get really good at times and it has a wave for everybody. from the advanced to the beginner.

I surf there often and find it to be a most enjoyable wave and highly recommend it to a newbie.

otherwise you could go have a look in the strand right in front of the water park. not as nice of a wave and the locals can really be full of it.

i went down to CT about 5/6 years back. so i was still pretty much a novice and loved Big Bay. i ven made a friend or 2 there in 14 days worth of surf. so was friendly, clean 3 foot and really fun. so id agree with spy! big bay.

Thanks for your clear replies Guys!

Will go to Big Bay and Melkbos soon to give it a try.. i assume i need a wetsuit for that water, right? Does my theory sound logic to you guys about the wind..if the wind is onshore in Muizenberg, it is offshore at Big Bay / Blouberg / Melkbos?

    Thanks again.

You will definitely need a wetsuit for melkbos and big bay as the SE wind makes the water very cold. As for your question about the wind, if it is on shore at Muizenberg then it will probably be more side shore at big bay and closer to a offshore at melkbos.

Keep on practicing and hope to hear soon that you are charging into the belly of the beast.

    hey dude,

ja melkbos is good and very mellow wave with loads of guys learning, so good fun! it needs more SE to be offshore there but hold in crosshore also...

big bay, yeah it can close out a lot but more challenging when you want to test the braveness on size with those bigger swells..

big bay rocks and thats my local break!! im always out there and loving it esp when its 3 - 6ft range, kite boards yeah they okish when they out there....they take loads of your waves which can suck sometimes. winds, well it holds most winds and bigbay is one of those spots where it doesnt have to be offshore to be fun ;)

    see you out there!

    Thanks again..

Will buy a wetsuit this weekend and then i'm off to the R27! I'll see where i go since both spots sounds really nice.. So probably see you around. I drive every from Fishhoek to Muizenberg and it looks kinda sad when there are only 3-10 people in the water trying to make the best of it..sometimes i also dip into the water, but it is a lot of waiting for a few meters of fun..

Hehe.. really hope i feel quickly comfortable with the waves..i don't have any idea how it is like. In Holland it doesn't get as big as it gets here..

    Cheers
