SUSS

Hey okes, i put a post up in the news section about this thing called SUSS.
A buddy of mine develped it for all of us ocean loving sportsman, its free and will only work with you okes signing on. I have been playing with the beta version now for the last two months and its rocking!!

The concept is simple, you surf, you record your session, you sleep :- repeat.
After a while your data will start to show trends, now for the beautiful part, SUSS cross refereces it with MagicSeaweed (and hopefully soon wavescape), you hit the button "find me waves" and a personalised report is generated telling you what is working based on your data and historical data from the surf reporting websites. If you havnt recorded a spot, it wont show up on your report.

YOu can go one up and start a crew and share your info (spots and data) with only your friends
You need never disclose your secret spot logs as everything is your choice.

    Any questions
    please feel free to ask
    Spy.

It's really worth it getting registered with this site, it only takes a minute. I've been using it for about 3 months now and I'm saving a sh#t load of petrol, and scoring sick waves. This site was build for logging you're own session at your own spots. You cant go wrong unless you lie to yourself.

It gets data from Magic seaweed which is a very accurate surf report. The only thing that you need to remember is when you had a good session and where, that really all. you leave the rest for the site. after a few logged sessions, you log in and click on find me waves, then it gets data from Magicseaweed and automaticaly kicks out all your session where the conditions was the same than the day you specify to find you waves. You can also create groups and invite people, then you can share you're sickest sessions. Thanks to SUSS I will never ever drive all the way to a spot again and get bumbed.

    hehehe, cool another SUSS head.

Hey okes i am thinking about starting a sixty40 Cape Town Crew. (boogers only)
I am think i am gonna add booger friendly spots that the core of CT booger will ride. No secret spots.

I was thinking along the lines of the following
    West coast: Derde Steen
    Atlantic Seaboard: Llanduno
False Bay: Kalk Bay and Koeel Bay
    South Peninsula: Hoek.

If you okes are interested in Joining this crew, PM me sothat i can invite you.

PM = personal message me, it's that little icon on the right.
Please also include your email address so that i know where to send the invite.

I am starting the Cape Town crew,
If you arnt from Cape Town, why not start your own crew, Its almost like a public crew, but works on invite only, Keep the spots to the general breaks, the idea is to save time and gas money, not make the breaks more crowded than they already are.

registered, joined a crew all good...

went to log a session which is of a brake in a friends crew but unable to and only allows me to log a session under my breaks ive created....anyone know why that is as dont want to keep creating spots everytime if they are listed in a friends crew.

    Oi Mark
    here is the plan

What you must do is – join the crew – then go to the MySpots page and use the “Import” button to import all of the CREWS spots into his profile

Once he has the Crews spots in your profile – you can log sessions against that spot

Once you have logged a session – you must go to “Share my Sessions” – under the “Session” menu – then you select the session u wants to share and the crew.

Once you have submitted you session to the Crew – the Crew administrator (me) will review that session and share it with the rest of the group!

    easy peasy

This is still very new, so please the more questions the better, it will only improve the service.
    Ahoy

    Howzit okes!!!

A few of you on here may know me ... but to the others - I'm a standup from the WESKUS (waits for bottles to be thrown at head) - and creator of SUSS

I noticed the thread so I thought I'd sign up and try help answer your questions and fix any bugs that you guys happen to run into!

Seb - Sorry about that bru! I do know that we were having connection issues with our servers this evening - but it all seems to be sorted now! Please do me a favour and try to re-register ... if you STILL have a problem then I'll need you to provide me with the details you're using to register and I'll try and sort it all out for you!

other than that guys - a QUICK update about SUSS and my vibe around it

Basically - for the past few years I've been keeping detailed records of what the swell conditions have been doing in relation to the sessions I've had - BUT - I've been doing it on Excel - which was obviously a bit of a ball-ache ... so I decided to write a little application to help me manage and use that data to help predict future sessions based of historic condition data - TADA - enter SUSS .... its a globally unique concept (as far as I know) - and the rad thing is that I've built it for me, my mates and the general ocean going community to use - FOR FREE ... NADA - FOKOL ... its YOURS TO ABUSE - reason being that I was, earlier this year, keeping this application all to myself to help me and my mates predict sessions - it started working exceptionally well (after we'd collected enough data) and the plees from the rest of my mates to put it online so they could all use it came POURING in ....

so .. I bukled to the pressure and thats where we are now .... I pushed the completed site live about 10 days ago and just wanted to get the word out there that there's a sick new tool on the market - unlike anything else there - designed to help you as individual surfers make better (more accurate) calls FAR more often by bridging a MASSIVE gap in the swell prediction cycle (ie: how do I know what the following spots will be doing in these conditions)

so there you have it - enjoy the tool - I've got huge enhancements in store and some really great things lined up for the tool

oh - and if you guys want any extra info or details or .. whatever ... maybe even some custom functionality - drop me a line - always happy to oblige!!!

oh ja ... and there's a facebook group for it - better to join that -> you'll be kept up to date regarding all future enhancements!

LEKKE - hope you okes are scoring!

    Ok okes
I have set up a crew specifically for the Cape Town based bodyboarders and its growing already.
It gives basic spots frequented by us boogers around the peninsula.
    Derdes
    Kalk BAy
    Kommetjie
    Llanduno
    Caves
Its up to us to now to join the crew, surf the spots, logg the sessions -- and in this regard, if you go down to the beach, and its KUK, log that too, take note of the wind, time, swell size and crowd and if you are really into it, the water temp. The reason is, if all conditions arnt logged then there is no way SUSS can cross pollinate with majicseaweed when the swell is like 9ft @ 7secs (ie Flat) and it just renders that there is no session data in these conditions. Then most important, remeber to share your data with the crew.

ok crew details are as follows
6040CT boogers is a private crew. In order to join you'll need to enter the following credentials in the 'Join Private Crew' area:
    Crew Name: 6040CT boogers
    Crew Password: ctgutslider

I think this way is easier than PM (thats personal message craig) me and me sending invites and then authing the register. Not lazy, just busy at work at the moment.

    Ahoy okes

    October 2008
Dudes, if you have joined a crew, only add session data for the spots relevent to the crew, the crew admin will still have to auth it and assign it to the spot listed. Eg in 6040CTboogers I have a spot listed as Kooelbay - Caves, you might have the same spot listed under your spots as say Cool Bay, when you share that data with the 6040CT Booger crew, i will assign your data (Cool Bay) to the crew data (Kooel Bay - Caves) and thus we all benefit. But if you share data that isnt relevent to the crew, like say a semi secret spot, the crew Admin has to make a choice weather to keep it or turn it down.
I have laid out the spots covered, i am not including secret spots in the 6040CTbooger crew as i want it to act like a public crew, but keeping it still on the low down (private) for boogers only, you can create you own crew for SECRET SPOT X and invite your 5 friends who surf it with you into your own private crew. The idea of SUSS isnt to fling information about willy nilly, but to aid you and your mates in scoring better surfs and saving gas.

OK who has started a weskus undiscolsed crew, cos i want in, someone invite me. :D

Hahaha, Spy you make me lag.

Nice idea Craft, and sounds like it could be a cool tool if I'm motivated enough to fill in all the data. Personally I'm so lum after a good session that I can barely focus on driving home let alone entering session data. My laziness does give me an idea for future development though: how about looking at developing a mobile application that sends the 'session log' either by data or sms to the SUSS server? This way I could send info just before my session or just after, as well as being more likely to send info on the kak days when sitting in the car feeling sorry for myself. It would be like messaging just another one of your mates with a surf update.
And then of course being able to access the conditions info from my phone would be sick too...

Wahoo, the future brings ever more rewarding laziness. Gone are the days of measuring storm fetches on synoptic charts... :D

    October 2008
    Jmo!!!

you're leaking all my future enhancements here bru !!!! haha - on the ball!!

100% bru ... not only will you be able to log your sessions via sms - but you'll also be able to query the SUSS server and have all your session suggestions returned to your phone so you can know where to surf without needing to access your PC

however - a note on your comment - you dont need to capture your session the same day you surfed .... whenever you have time - just pop onto the system and record the session you had (yesterday or last weekend) - as long as you remember the date and time that you were in the water then you're SORTED

but lekke - enjoy the system - SMS functionality is in the pipes ;)

    October 2008
Ya, I spend way too much time thinking up new ideas and not enough time actually making them happen, so kudos to you for getting this project running.

Likewise, my brain is way too full of junk ideas for me to remember my session from the day/week before, so I'd definitely need to update there and then if I wanted to benefit from the functionality. Nice one, hopefully I'll be around to use it sometime soon... :?

do we have any UK based surfers that will use the tool - for now I'm only adding countries if there are surfers there who are wanting to use the tool? if you guys know of anyone in the UK who would benifit from SUSS - please let them know ... at the same time - drop me a message on this forum and I'll hook it up!!!

    lol!

seb bru - its always you running into the issues :P - sorry bru!!! bad luck it seems!

do me a favour and try log your session again - if you STILL get that error I'll need you to send me exactly what data you're trying to capture so I can try and replicate the error. It may be something in the "anything else" textarea at the bottom of the screen thats causing it to break - so my suggestion would be to capture your session without filling in that field - saving it - and if you're able to save successfully, go back into that session and add the "anything else" data that you wanna capture -> you can update your prior sessions via the "sessions" menu -> select "Past Sessions"

shot bru - shout if you still have a problem - but to answer your initial question - I haven't heard of anyone else getting an error on that page so far?

    lekke!

    October 2008
    yoh!

problems all over the show today! sorry guys!!!!!!!!!!!

PeterB - when you say you're trying to log into the CT crew? I'm not sure I'm following correctly?

you dont really log-into a crew (my bad for not making this clear on the site - I still need to build a help section - Its coming soon! promise!) - instead you sign up to a crew - once you exist in a crew you simply have access to all of that shared crew data ... so you never really "log into" that crew apart from your first request to join as a member?

could you clarify a little for me and I'll help you asap?

Ya what Craft said... log your session and then share it with sixty40CT boogers.
Once you have shared it, i will go auth it and that data will become relevent to the entire crew.

Craft sort out these bugs bru!!!!! tune your server to stop rooking buttons.. kak serias!

    October 2008
AH! Thanks bru - that makes sense!

yes - those pages are still coming - FOK I'm being lazy ... sorry man!

That list - is the list of crews that you already belong to (or own if you decide to create your own one)

ideally when you click on that link you'll should be taken to a cozy little 'crew' page where you get to see all of your fellow crew mates profiles as well as all the shared sessions and spots

Craft must spot being a lazy sh!t and must organize that this week!

    watch this space!

  • October 2008
    suggestions,

when you create a session, why not have a button / drop down to add it as a shared session instead of logging a session then having to go back and search for it and share it....would save that extra few steps

secondly.... when you join a crew and share sessions, why cant no one check the others sessions when shared?

    thanks

    howzit bru!

both very valid points and already in the pipes! spot on!

I'm going to add an option on the "add a session" page to 'autoshare with your crews' (I'm gonna try do that tonight)

and to answer your second point - I'm going to add another page off the "my crews" page that will allow you too hook up & interact with your other crew members (forum & chat & photos etc) as well as being able to see the shared sessions for that crew -> but for now - the ONLY place in the system that will allow you access to your fellow crew members shared sessions is when you go and search for waves using the "find me waves" tool

essentially - sharing a session simply allows the 'find me waves' tool to search both YOUR sessions and your crews shared sessions - and when it finds a crew session to match the expected conditions it will return that session along with your personal sessions (there will be a little icon next to the session indicating that its a crew session)

so ja - the explination is that I builing "shared sessions" and crews as a phased piece of functionality - the first step being to have those sessions returned to you when you use "find waves" ... and the 2nd step will be to allow interaction between crew members and all those other lekker things!!

    coming soon :)

yoh ... craft must work :p

    October 2008
eish bru!! thats probably the issue!

to be 100% honest - I haven't even looked at making safari compliant yet! - its 100% IE and Firefox sorted tho ... and I know some safari browsers work ... but it sounds like it could be the issue

if you have another browser (Firefox?) try with that! if you're STILL getting issues then it has to be data related - in which case - please just send me a message explaining where in the site you were as well as what details you were trying to capture (I'll need the exact values you were trying to type in) and I'll sort it out for you asap!

shot for the positive feedback bru - busy adding some sick features - you okes are gonna dig it when I've sorted out all the crew interaction features! realtime chat and session photo sharing and all that kak!

    Howzit okes!!

just to give you an update - I've added Crew Lounges!

If you belong to a crew - you'll now have access to the Crew's lounge - which currently lets you see all of your crew's memebers, spot and submitted sessions.

It also lets you view detailed SUSS resource data as well as providing you with an analytics tool to help you analyse your spot & session conditions and make more accurate calls!

Additionaly - I'm going to be adding "wall" and Crew SMS's functionality to the lounge - that way you'll be able to interact with the okes in your Crew and keep your mates up to date with your surfing plans!

Pull in and check it out!

1 thing that i was wondering bout was wave size...since we have a public 6040 group, not every1 uses the same "ft" measurement
some of us use the Hawaiian 1 while others use their actual shoe size :P ....wat we agreeing on???

Good job bru! thanks for the update!!

I guess that'll be spydude's job to answer you - on that note though - I've just released real time chat functioanlity for the Crew Lounges ... so if you have any questions about the Crew or need to rap with the other okes about a mission or you last session - then hop into the lounge and post on the wall. The interface is still pretty basic - but as soon as I've got time to fiddle I'll jazz it up a bit! for now it serves its purpose well ;)

    lekke bru! hope you're scoring!

and okes - the site is starting to generate some kiff momentum - it would be rad if you could spread the word to your mates, setup crews for yourselves and that kinda thing - SUSS looks likes its ready to take on a few more member :p

shot okes - and thanks for the support! if you've got other suggestions for the tool that you think will make it work better for you - drop me a line and I'll sort it out!
