Brendon Newton Steps Down

  • July 2008
    Read off Riptide this morning...

It's a crying shame to see one of the sport's better-known chargers throw in the towel. However, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, and young Brenden Newton happens to be a kid with serious family priorities now. Here's what the fella had to say: "G'day friends. I'm emailing 'round to let you know that I have given up pro bodyboarding. Rest assured that I more amped on life than ever, with my amazing wife, Libby. You are all dead-set legends. Brendo." Brenden has made an amazing and inspiring impact on our sport and the Riptide team wish him all the best in the future. Hopefully this won't be the last we see of the notorious charger.

ok so he gave up pro bodyboarding, its not like he quit bodyboarding and is taking up lawn bowls instead. Its not like he is lost to the sport.

Yeah true but it still sucks that even the golden cradle of the Aussie industry (IE where the most support lies) he can't get the industry to work out something that fits or supports his lifestyle. (ala Dave Rastovich's free-surf sponsorships etc.)

you dont know that for sure, Brenton is family man, maybe he has become a father and values time with his newborn more than spending weeks away on tour. Trust me on this, your own child will change your perspective on everything.
