I've tried this once or twice. its kiff fun, you take for fins off, and stand at the shore side, and wait for the shorebreak to start forming, then you run with as much speed as possible, and you jump and hit the shorey as its breaking, and bust a quick little air.

Also i doubt it can damage your board. unless you dont have stringers, and the shorey is heavy

Not detrimental to your board but your face might lose some skin if you time it wrong - ask me, I know! and you might feel like a pratt! haha!

aaaaaaaaaaahhh wave jumping! i jus call it skimming. I looooove it! some days i would go to the beach specially just for skimming! Its the future i tell u! haha it doesn't damage your board so much bt be carefull for your face, like dcmike sais ! and you will probably get winded a few tyms! My buddy nearly broke his shoulder about amonth back from skimming! make sure you dont go down face first cos its really shallow sometimes!

    Have fun bra!

Ja its fun but as DC says it can be detrimental to ur face and ur lower back as I found out the hard way!!!
Couple yrs ago i came out of a small surf and all my buddies were skimming and hitting it, so there's me with my vipers still on deciding to give it a go.
Clocked up as much speed as I could and launched into the flats picturing a massive insane bust only to find out i let the water run too thin

Results = 1 x heaviest nosedive into practically dry sand which filled my mouth acting as a handbrake, and 1 x supercontorted back wherebye I could see my vipers infront of my face!!!!!!!!!

    Never skimmed since boet.
As far as hurting ur board, we had dow and arcel cores in those day and PP was like brand new so there were a few lil deck creases to be had aswell as some scratches on ur slick.

Nowdays i dont think it'll hurt too bad unless ur going big or hitting wrong.

    Laters.

umm... it can be very detrimental to your board. I snapped my Hubb clean in half while skimming once  But that series of Hubb's was known for having a weakness in the area of the elbow pads (2006 model i think). Other than that skimming is rad. Great way to pass the time until high tide and the shorey gets big enough to ride. Where else can you do full backflips and loopy reverses off a one-foot wave and get enough height that your balls are hiding somewhere near your liver in fear of the infamous egg flap! Listen to the sounds of awe coming from Vallies and other non-swimmers on the beach.

Skimming can be great fun, but I would recommend doing it with an old or VERY strong board.
