I went to Swakopmund once without my board and was pretty bummed, I saw a great looking wave right in front of the spot we were staying.
I reckon you take it and do a little research into the waves in the area before you go.

Also, it depends on how long you're going to be there for. Because as far as I know Namibia has really long periods of flatness, but when swell hits then it gets awesome. That is grounds for checking the swell forecasts before you go, if theres a good period swell heading up there then you might score...

    Good luck

you are well brave for wanting to take a sponge out in namibia... The water is freezing cold at best of times, worse than what we have in cape town... and there are big time bronze whalers out there and the cruze right up into the shalows and love feeding on the sand bars and reef section out there... If you are willing to brave the cold and the water... you will find some good spots between swakopmund and henties bay... If u do score sick surf let me know where, as I make do a trip up there at least once a year..

When I was land-locked in Windhoek many years ago, I heard there was a sick spot called Guns. It might just be a lame long board wave but apparently when - emphasis on when, it reels off like Supers... jaja, braaivleis stories! Good luck and have a Tafel Lager for me!!!

If you haven't already, go check out http://www.sixty40.co.za/surfspots and check the Namibia selection.

Carlos, of our members & a Namib local, has added a selection of some of the best spots (including Guns), along with a few shots.

Ok, i got back form my namib holiday 4 weeks ago and just wanted to post an update.
After a week in winhoek we went to swakop for 4 days and i wanted to surf. The next day i went out to go look for some waves and missioned everwhere. Walvis bay-Nothing there. Henties bay-fucken epic surf spots all the way there. I wont surf it though, really huge and only people fishing.
When i got back form a whole day of looking for surf i came across something form heaven. I guy in a wetsuit and holding a surf board. HOLY SHIT.
I ran to him to ask where he was gonna charge. And he said just to the end of this rock pier ledge thing. So i ran there to take alook and found 2 boogers and a standup.. I was stoked. Ran back to the car got my siut on and jumped of the rocks into the water.
Would i found was fucked crazy, A kalk bay, But really chill. The okes where so nice and i am still in contact with them now.
Waves discription.- 10meter diamiter take off zone and breaks off a slab that on low tide is really shalow. Right or left, Left has 3 barrel sections and is long. Rights more for backdoor. When you wipe is a funny feeling as you are sliding along the reef with this foam on it. It's nothing to worry about
This spot is sick. The closest thing to it is kalk. I surfed this spot for the next few days till this huge storm can in with 5m swells and fucked up everything. Next to this wannabe kalk bay there was a huge shorebreak that was 5-6ft. So i thought what the hell. Ill charge.
Mistake, One wipeout and i bolted.
Let me just say, Namibia has potential for a great surfing country, i would recomend anyone to take there stuff if your going.
There are a total of 4 surfs spots that i found and where told of by the guys i met.
Lockjoint. I didnt manage to surf here but i looks sick. Reefbreak.
Point.( this is where i surfed the whole week) Totally sick and very consistent and close to the town. Hint.- Turn as if you are going to henties bay, about 5 min drive from swakop lighthouse.
Guns. More of a standup spot. Between walvis bay and swakop. The dolphin estate place.
There is a spot infront of the halfpipe in swakop. Works when big.
If you are going and want info just email me.
Some pics of me surfing point and that shorebreak. Some locals too

As my entire family was born in Namibia, except me, I've been going there for years. Just went there now again and came back this morning. Some really good waves around. Check it out:
