Wave Ettiquette

I am pretty new to the body boarding sport, and I was wondering what the story in the waves is regarding who has rights to catch which wave.

I know the basics about being on the inside or the outside. ie if the wave is a left then the guy furthest to the right has right of way. But this doesn't seem to apply as I have been dropped in on a number of times now.

Am I missing something, does it count who was paddling first or something.

I am pretty chilled and believe there are plenty of waves for everyone, but I don't want to upset anyone, so maybe I am in the wrong here or something. Any advice will be appreciated.

Just remember htat not everyone supports the unwritten rules. It's ok if someone(usually a surfer) drops in once but i hate guys who drop in on everyones waves.

    Hey Man

I beleive that most ppl understand the rules of the water, its just kooks who thing they throw their weight around, especially if they can see your a begginer (and trust me you can see it). so anyway if you have decided to go left and someone "drops in" front of you< they are in the wrong, if you do this to someone IE they are behind you now, your in the wrong!!, certain rules do change like when the shoulder of a wave is coming and the guy behind you gets mashed in the barrel while you can freely drop into the oncoming tube, this is alright to do considered dropping in but with the knowlege that he was not going to come out, in short if he is in the tube and it looks sketchy like he wont make it then its ok to go,

dude max respect for reach out for advice man its good to see guys humbling themselves for the sportm, A Jeff Hubb in the making

    Cheers

Thanks for the input guys. I have noticed that some people ou there are super cool and some others are d*ckheads. So I just remember the cool guys and forget the others.

I think that thing about making the tube or not is what was confusing me. I suppose that would apply to a close out section as well.

    See ya in the water.
