Sorry bro, u guys had your fair share after the storm earlier this year. Saw pics of North Beach and New Pier GOING OFF!!!! You guys had some sick waves up there whilst we were slapping around in small stuff.

Anyways, surfed KBay today with about 30 okes in the water! It was virtually impossible to get a wave let alone one to yourself.   At least the vibe was mellow and most of the dudes were cool. Apparently all the boogers/surfers in Cape Town do not work!!! Well all except Spy

@ Spy: Where was my call??? :P

hehehhe, yeah kbay was pretty packed yesterday, the traffic just paddling into a wave was insaine. Still some nice wide barrels were to be had. Was good to see lea in the water, even if rory headbutted her to get a wave
Just a side note -- Where did that swell come from, it was like a true South swell, but every chart was calling the swell South West and also how flipping cold is the false bay at the mo, like atlantic cold, hoek cold.. brrrrrr.

    hey spy!

    yea, kalkies was fun yesterday!
I also didnt expect That much swell, but was expecting it...
The charts showed a SW swell approching but down south there was a gale force wind that blew straight south for 48hours. Basically from antartica up to cape point the whole ocean swell was South! But at the same time the small SW swell was hitting...and our local buoys were picking that swell up not the massive south surge....

so i guess that also explains the cold water (besides the obvious upwelling from a week of offshores), that water was so cold, even with my ninja suit on my left ear is still blocked this morning.

Ian, you becomeing a bit of a guru with this swell prediction, nice one geeza! if it wasnt for a my hair dresser in clovelly who happened to see a stand up get a barrel at clovely wedge and thus gave me a heads up, i would have been none the wiser about that swell.

On a side note, i counted 34 okes out at one stage, it was totally rediculous, but the best part was, as Crow pointed out, even with that intence crowd and all the drop-in's and burning that was happening, the vibe was sooooo mellow and so relaxed, no surfer vs bodyboarder attitude, Its sessions like that, that make it all worth it.

From my understanding: Out in the open ocean there are always swells coming from different directions, and so the swell reports only count the dominant swell direction/size. This south swell obviously flew under the radar if there was a slightly bigger SW swell at the same time Even if the S swell was smaller it would have been dominant at KBay since Cape Point blocks most of the SW swell.
