I don't think that this type of crime or the frequency there of is limited to South Africa - Iam pretty sure that at this very moment there are boogers/surfers in other parts of the world moaning about exactly the same thing.
It is sad that these things occur, but we have to try and find some form of peaceful solution to our problem.
It is tough having to constantly turn-the-other-cheek when faced with issues such as these and it is even more difficult when these types of crimes and worse are happening to us and to those we know and hold dear to our hearts...but violence begets violence and in my opinion...
violence has never solved anything...well dropping the A Bomb stopped the Second World War, but that is besides the point!
Like Eilander says...such hatred is built through constantly reading about the serious crimes taking place in our beautiful country and no-one seems to be able to offer any kind of solution - sort or long term.
Honestly i must say it would be flippin cool to latt them with a couple of frozen paintballs, but would that stop someone else from coming along and breaking into cars a short while later?...i think not.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how many of these thieves you "sort-out" there will always be more waiting in line to take their place, so the problem as it stands is never-ending. We surfers are soft targets and will be taken advantage of...so leave all your valuables at home.
Like i say...we have to as a community come together and find our own solution instead of expecting the SAPS or someone else to step forward. Might is suggest a local community group of concerened surfers?
Alone we stand silent, but together we have a voice...
Crime is not restricted to South Africa alone...sure overseas there are less violent crimes, but crime still occurs.
Just look at London for example...more youths are being killed now than ever before.
While i was there in 2001, staying in Central London (Waterloo near the OXO Tower), i felt safe walking around at any hour - mostly thanks to Big Brother. But if you were to take a short journey to places like Northholt, Stratford (or anywhere in Essex for that matter) or even to the Isle of Dogs (Mudchute) you'd often notice police banners warning passers by that they were in a muggings hot-spot...or banners asking for witnesses to serious crimes that occurred in the area.
My point being that crime is exists no matter where you are in the world. Lets face it...no where is 100% safe anymore.
I too think this might all be like Spy points out...part of a greater plan for governments to impose stricter rules and regulations - eventually converting the planet into a policed state.
Think about it...the more tired we become of these violent or non-violent crimes, the more willing we will be to let this kind of "take-over" occur.
Scary....ahhhhhhh
