So I get out of the water last night at Derdesteen with mates Fabian & Steve to find sum asswipes hav broken into my cab
They were so clever in that they took my radio face but not the unit itself.
Thats like me stealin ur cell phone cover and leevin the phone behind!!!
    WTF!!!???

Oh apart from that I had theez cool mini puma soccerboots hanging from the rearview, but instaed of taking those they decided to take them along with the whole frikkin mirror too!!!

So now im miff this morning cos i cant see behind me and i had no tunes to rock to while sitting in traffic for an hour

Im sure as a surfing community (forget wat we ride for once) we can shut this kuk down?
If the bra boys can instill fear in the whole of OZ Im sure we could collectively make it known that if u steal from a surfspot or surfers cabbie that ur gonna get a proper beatdown local style!!!

Dunno, maybe im just bummed but Im just gettin so sick & tired of this S#*t!!!!!
We really need to instill the fear in theez BAstards, especially since they do it at derdes all the time!!!

    Ja.

    Ah bleak Craig!

You should have asked Fabs for "Hitler 2" (ask him about it next time you see him), and asked the okes parked there if they saw anything.

There are so many dodgy people who frequent that spot and there is very little one can do in order to ensure the safety of your vechile while in the water. Only thing i do is try and make sure that i don't have anything valuable on me or in my car and whatever i do have is in my boot, which in order to get in to they would have to go through my seats or use a crowbar to bust it.

    I know what you're saying...

Even if you don't have stuff in your car they still break in to check...it's swak...plain and simple.

I don't think that beating people up solves anything.

But possibly we as a surfing community could come together and organise that between certain hours there is a car guard on site to ensure that this sort of thing does not occur.

Imagine if every oke, or pretty much every oke who goes to Derdes over the weekend chipped in R5 to the guard...he'd make a small fortune...good money for a good days work.

I'd pay R5 to ensure that my gear stays where it belongs...i'd even pay R10!

Or maybe there should be something in place similar to Eerstesteen?

The bottom line is that this is unacceptable, but we as a community need to come together and find a constructive solution instead of lowering our standards to those of the common criminal by resorting to violence!

    Peace!

Ja its a kuk 1 for sure but hey,wat can u really do without going thru a huge fuss?
We were even joking about our cars still being there when we got back.

I know that golfs r eezy to break into cos their lock and handle mechanisms r from the 70's.
But i can tell u 1 thing tho,Every single part that can ensure that my lil cabbie will b that much safer will be bought and bolted on ASAP!!!

Just saddens me that we hav to live like this u kno?
Yes I ko poverty is rife & jobs r few but u as a person hav the choice as to whether or not u r willing to b honest & werk for money or be lazy and steal for it.
And im sorry to say,as a person who always likes to think the very best of others and who judges them as I see myself, that I feel alot of hatred towards those kind of people who choose the later.

Furthermore im not a violent person, probably the most chilled u will ever come across, but steal from me and show total disregard for the property i worked my ass off to get.....and I will moer u!!!

    werd is bond!
Shout out to my thug Deon Meyer who knows Im an OG LOL!
    sorry personal joke 8)

Yeah def a crap one dude!

Age old problem and one that will carry on no matter what. Even if we manage to curb it at one spot, the thieves just move on to another spot. There is no law and order in this country keeping things in check.

I'm with Spy on the car guard story. They useless and often in on the problem. My two week old car was stolen from the Long Beach car park in Sept 2006. Packed car park, car guard and all. No-one, not even the car guard, claim to have seen anything (whatever  ). This is not the first time that cars have mysteriously disappeared from Long Beach car park. There have been many (locals and tourists) and I doubt that it'll be the last. The thieves watch and they know that we gonna be in the water for ages. Believe me these guys are super fast at getting into and jacking your car.

I've heard similar stories from other surf spots as well; Table View, Derdesteen, Muizenberg, Witsands, etc. Hell they even tried to steal my previous car from Hout Bay beach whilst I was surfing right in front of the car park during a storm swell.

Only way is to leave all your valuable stuff at home (take the bare minimum) and hide the rest away in the car where it cannot be seen and easily accessed.

    Ja fully,

Thing is,is that my nice airwalk jersey, vans and jeans were all in the boot which they could have gotten to if they really wanted to but instead left alone.
I also had like 15 cd's in the car too which they also lassed.

I think they were only really after the frikkin stoopid lil soccerboots hangin on the rearview!!!!
Then just grabbed watever they thought would piss me off too including my entire rearview mirror!!!

This leads me to believe it was more of a hey-look-i-can-take-ur-stuff type thing and they took my mirror too to spite me?

    Assholes.

I actually cant wait to see those lil boots on sum okes mirror broo cos im gonna unleash the fury I swear!!!

And I know for a fact that no-one can just get hold of those too eezy cos I got them from an old lady who said she had had them for like 40 yrs!!!
    Theyr marked aswell.
From now im also carrying a baseball bat and a katana in my whip too
    U kno...just in case.

Unlucky dude, miff feeeling... the owes broke into my car broad day light in the city about 5 days ago.. smashed the window, stole radio / radio face and ipod etc..

cops?! haha, went there and they couldnt be bothered to help and werent interested!! Yes Cape Town city police station...

well one thing i did enjoy when i was living in Durban, when i surfed town the north beach car gaurds would look after your keys and were a really good bunch of guys and just didnt take shit and knew what was cutting... happy to tip and always stoked and genuine guys...

maybe something like that for the surfers who are looking for sideline weekend income? walk around with a good beat the hell out of your stick if you come close and look after owes cars, keys and be friendly and chat what not.. could be good couple hundred bucks for extra income esp when its good surf ;)

U get this one alarm system that actually takes a pic of the jacker and sends it to ur phone to let u know that its in the process of being jacked too.

    Kinda nice i thought.
Probly costs a pretty penny too tho.

Eish, the lengths we hav to got to I swear........

  • April 2008
but what happens if when you surfing and your phones in the car also and that gets stolen also? the thief will have a good laugh i bet as it will give away the location of your phone and he gets a cool pic ;)

    April 2008
yeah it sux having stuff stolen from you... in durban i left my bag in the tree at north beach... it got stolen and nobody saw anything.... had all my mates phones and clothes in... was so bummed cos there were like 6 other bags in the tree and mine was the one to get stolen...

But other than that, the car guards at North Beach are normaly realy rad... they keep your keys, lend you their phones if u need one and some even have like wax and a spair leash... If you look after them and treat them right then they are gonna look after u...

bag in tree?????? and you wonder why it got stolen.

Personally i take the bare minimum.
If i can leave my wallet at home i do, same for phone.

The car gaurd at kbay knows most of the surfers dont tip him, why, cos his predesesor (oke before him) was bust breaking into the cars whilst the okes were in the water, he went for things like sk8 shoes, ugg boots, winter jackets, cellphones, cameras and well basically everything he could get his hands on.

This one time in Town my Uno got broken into.

Ok in ashtray was about R70 in assorted R5 and R2 coins. In glove compartment was a bag o herb, lank CD, sound system face, back seat was an umbrella, boot contained my surf box that had wax, wax comb, leash plugs, old tin of vaseline (with lank sand in it) and a nice jacket.

This is what they stole -- the umbrella, the wax comb and the vaseline... the smashed window cost me a couple of hundred and the rest i still cant figure out? Bo-Kaap, go figure.

Well, this is not really a new thing, is it?
Bags and cars were getting scaled way back in '92 when I was a grom surfing Muizenberg. Just one of those things about living in SA.

    Ja Spy!

That **** from the KBay car park still has my bros watch. His car was broken into whilst he was surfing and the watch and some other items were stolen. Standard reply when my bro confronted him: "bought it from someone on the street."

Lank of the groms seem to trust the new dude. They leave their stuff with him and give him money when they get out after surfing. Seems pretty stupid to me. Looking for trouble! Maybe some of the other dudes on sixty40 can give more info about the guy??? He always finds me a parking spot though :D so I tip him.

There's this local surf spot that's off limits now coz of dune errosion and all. so ppl don't really go there coz its kinda a mission(gotta drive thru ditches and around these huge concrete bolcks and so on). Anyway sum ppl stil go and while a dude an his wive were chilling there sum guys came and tried to rob him. He killed 1 and the other ran like hell. but only after the robber stabbed the crap outa him. really sad, the guy was just chilling on a wknd with his wive and then he ends up in hospital. I go there often and I like going alone coz yr almost garenteed a sole mission with no1 to be seen which is always gud for the soul  but now its a bit sketchy. but i'll still go, guess if its yr time its yr time hey

sorry to hear about yr loss there bud!

hahahaha, well when grommie JMO was flapping hand drag spins at the berg in 92, i was doing my national service in the townships of Jozie. Ya i can remeber our bags getting nicked off dangers in 88, we chased the okes, my mate, along with passing cops on the main road caught the okes and then the dumb pigs let them go after like an hour of offroading inthe the back of the van, dude came back to dangers with a bottle neck to stab my mate who chased him down. Thats when the older surfers half bricked him.
As for the new kbay car gaurd, yeah i noticed the kids all pay him, but they do also leave their bags in the tree (must be a lighty thing that) He seems cool though, but honestly, i never bring valuable to the beach no more.

Saddly the other day at llands i witnessed this: Car gaurd directs a car to park illegally, dumb tourist gets out and pays the car guard upfront (not when he gets back to the car) wait for it... R50.00. And now you wonder why they get all arrogent and aggro when you tip them R2.
Joke was as soon as the tourist and his fat wife hit the beach, the botebessie slapped a parking fine on his car... dumbass car gaurd let him park on a red line????

Now my point is, i dont want their service, but they harrass you for bucks for a service you never agreed upon, they cant produce a tax reciept or any other documentation. These okes are no different to the mafia or a protection racket, extorting money out of people based on fear. I like the idea of the arabs, you steal you loose your hand. Thats why in dubai, you can forget your wallet ontop of your car with $1 000 000 0000 00000 0000 in it and it will still be there when you return, not a soul will touch it.

but also remeber there are lots of people who are starving and wot wot, these are 2nd bottom of the food chain, oke who go through your dustbin on garbage day are bottom of the food chain. by the oke lunch maybe, give him a sarmi or a coke. I dont agree with handing out cash, but a little food and drink and maybe a ciggy if you can spare one goes a long way.
