London surf machine

A few guys have been asking about news of a flow rider in London .. I know Extreme were trying to bring one in a few years ago - so maybe someone can enlighten us if they still are.

What we do know is that there are plans for a development called VX Silvertown in an old dock where they plan to build a wave machine similar to what we have at Lost City (it looks like - from the aerial view).

Personally, I would have gone with a flow rider but let's hope that they impress us with the quality of the wave.

    Hey Kelly,

Yes, I heard about the above one as well, however got caught up with the other installations, including a Flowrider in the UK!!
Is that one above still going in? As I could have sworn I heard something about bankrupsy, however, not for certain!?

"The maker of this, Bruce Mcfarland used to work for Waveloch.
Similar to a Flowrider, however is much more Brutal when you fall. went to check this out yesterday, we did 2 standup sessions and 1 bodyboard. standup is ok, although the boards are very different from flowboards. bodybording was rubbish as you have nowhere to ride.wipeouts were pretty harsh as the surface isn't soft like a flowrider, you have to wear wetsuits and helmets. we will go back for standup as it's the closest thing to a flowrider we've got at the moment. next month the flowrider at the merton hotel in jersey opens. we are going on april 26th will let you know how it goes"

This experience was that of a friend
Who lives in the UK and has traveled the world riding Flowriders.
Durban, Dubai, Liberty of the Seas and several installations in the U.S.
There is an actual FLOWRIDER, a beachbreak—“bump” that
Is suppose to open this month(April):

The first in the UK, Flowrider is opening soon:

Surfing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and for many 'catching a wave' provides the ultimate adrenaline rush. The problem is that for most people, the sport involves a long drive to the sea and the chance that when you arrive, there won't be any waves to surf on!
From 2008, guests at the Merton Hotel will have the opportunity to surf, whatever the conditions. The FlowRider™ allows anyone to catch a wave without fear – no wind, tides – just fun!

    What is FlowRiderâ„¢?
'Flowboarding' is a sport that combines the look of surfing, the ride of snowboarding and the tricks of skateboarding. The FlowRiderâ„¢ sends a thin sheet of water up a sloped and (thankfully) cushioned platform to create a wavelike flow of water. So it's perfect for beginning, intermediate and advanced surfers.
The Merton FlowRiderâ„¢ will be exclusively available to guests of the Merton Hotel and her sister hotels only. So to be sure of catching a wave in 2008 make your reservation today. NOT SURE HOW MANY YOU CAN CRAM INTO A ROOM, BUT SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO BE A GUEST OF THE HOTEL TO USE THE FACILITY, like a few of the places, now in the U.S.

The company or Store, ADRENALINA is putting Flowrider's in like CRAZY!! There are already 2 in Florida at Stores in Malls. There are 20 more planned for Florida, including one at a University!! Imagine that? Would be so cool, I would never get any studying done! :) There are also a couple Adrenalina locations planned for Texas. At Willow Bend in Dallas and also a location somewhere in Houston. Of course I cannot leave out the huge 4th Schlitterbahn, being built in Kansas. We were given privie to some of the plans and it will have wave technology like no other we have seen before! The other 3 Schlitterbahn's are located in Texas and 2 of the 3 are completely family owned. All 3 have large curls, unfortunately none of the curls are available to the public and stand-up is not allowed in Texas to the public as well.

We have several BIG waves around the world now, 1/2 the size of Durban Wave House. South Africa. Dreamworld Australia is suppose to be getting a “Double point break like Dubai” said my friend in Australia last week, however I told him that Dubai does NOT have a double-point break, only Durban, South Africa does!!
So don't quote me on what Australia is going to get by the end of the year.

yeh i actually read about the wave pool being built in london.
last time i saw it it the news here it seemed to me to be approved... the plans that is. And a possible completion time of 2010?.

apparently its gonna be of the likes of the suncity wavehouse but a much longer ride "over 100 meters" with 4000 peolple capacity in the water and on the beach.

SO it looks like its underway. cant wait to surf it ,tho i think they using one of the old docking area of the river THAMES which we all know aint the cleanest of rivers so im just worried about surfing in terds like the wedge capetown. how they gonna make it clean and user beach friendly beats me?

Yeah, I was also under the impression that the UK thingy had been approved. Wouldn't surprise me if it had been halted though, wouldn't be the first time plans like this have fallen through.

I also heard mention that a flowrider (similar to the D-Rex in Durban) is going to be built in Milton Keynes. Anyone know anything about this??? There is already an indoor ski slope at the main shopping centre there and cable-wakeboarding at a lake just down the road.
