Obviously I can't vote on the poll, but having been out on both of the wipeout days, I can honestly say that Peter's wipe on the West Coast is unquestionable deserving of a lifetime of carrots! It takes a lot to knock some sense into Peter and that wave practically had him considering a safe life spent in a quite Karoo town.
Nuts I tell you, I would NEVER have taken that wave!!

hey guys.congrats to making it to the finals of this fantastic contest.
we all know you deserve the much respect for being out in those
hardcore conditions.but correct me if i am wrong who was out at every session? Mr lambert
sunset to west coast to bayview charging whenever possible.
I would have to say tho that out of the 3 pics ishmaels takes the
cake.from wat i have heard bayview is way more narly than sunset
and the pic has been taken from above the wave rather than from the water level.
quite convenient dont you think that jmo claims a barrel with no photographic evidence
at this stage of the contest?what about the guy shooting from land didnt he get the wave on film???
anyway if i had my say out of the 3 pics ishmael would win and i would give peter the carrots and
a special honourary dedicated charger award.
well done to all tho including the photographers.
    good luck...and keep ripping...

actually Carmen, if you shoot a wave from above you make it look bigger than it actually is.

ah my bad.im still learning these things.actually know nothing about photography but just thaught
that it was the same feeling as being in the water.it always seems bigger when you in the water
than when you checked it out from the beach, cliffs or rocks...
in my opinion peter still deserves some sort of prize and not just some shitty carrots for his dedication
to the sport and in particular big wave riding.would be unfair for all his efforts to just get carrots...
thanks for the lesson spy dude.who gets your vote?

I am a judge in this, so i cant disclose my choises, just that all 3 are flipping big waves, all the riders should spend some time in an asylem, and they all need a skate board between their legs sothat their balls dont drag on the ground.

In the article someone commented that jmo pulled around the section to get the phattest barrel. Are the picture sequences?maybe we should vote on a sequence rather than one photo that could be miss leading?ishmael all the way with the bayview bomb...nice new angle

the pic posted by aadam really put things into perspective. one can see the waves are big, but when you see a pic of the whole scenery, the wall and ocean in background you suddenly realise:"OHHH MY GOSH ITS FRIGGIN HUGE!! RESPECT!!

    Nice shot Aadam...

One thing i would like to point out is that this shot by Aadam, although great, was not entered into the contest and therefore up until this point in time, was not seen by any of the judges.

The judges were shown the photo's submitted by the photographers, none of whom gave this perspective.

The Contest closed on the 7th of March and judging was done recently...so the photo does not count and unfortunately cannot be used to base the final result on.

James' waves were uploaded in sequence, but not all the shots we recieved were in sequence...hence the reason we uploaded them as single shots.

Go look at the older Biggest Wave posts in the News Archive or click on the events contest page to view all of the shots.

And with that wave Schmo was the deserved winner of the Bayview contest.
Now we wait and see who wins the photo contest (that was judged on the pics submitted within the time frame) Thus Aadams pic comes close, but no cigar as it was put up after the fact.

PS this poll doesnt count towards the final winner.

The judges on this consist of photographers, bodyboarders, surfers and a well respected oceanographer who has been used to judge stand up big wave events.

So wait till tomorrow night and see who the winner is.

    later

    Spy.
