Bodyboarders are just failed Surfers...

...So said a surfer to me today at school when he over heard me talking to some mates about the current epic swells, and bodyboarding after school.

I'm pretty much tired of surfers dis respecting Bodyboarders, and making comments like "Anyone can lie on a board" and "Anyone can boogie board" and "real men stand up on their boards"

The only way I ever get a surfer to respect me is by chatting to them in the water, or if i know them, or else they just drop in on me continuously, and give me crap. Now the mood is pretty mellow here in east London( The slummies ) But I've had my fair amount of fights with surfers in the water.. And I'm sick of it, Only time i can have a good session is by hitting an out of town spot, at sunrise before anyone else arrives. When I hit local spots( very Crowded) during the day, or after school, I either have to sit a few meters behind the surfers and take any thing they miss, or fall off, or paddle across to my own spot in the bay. I've been told to fuck off many times before on busy days, and especially when theres quite a swell running.

Anyway, whats your view on surfers? and their bullshit.

hard to believe that its all of them... if they give u k@k tune them. if they still give you k@k, drop in on them. if they still tune you after that and drop in on you again, drop in on them again. and laugh at them afterwards. if they dont get the message by then theyre tards

Just going to nip this in the bud, before we start the whole Bodyboarders vs Surfers debate that's been flogged to death resurrected and flogged again, over and over.
There are many bodyboarders who can surf, eg Derek Footit, who's represented SN Surfing, Phil Rodrigues - who knocked out the current S.A Champ in the Gunston one year. Ross McBride and Paul Roach both surf - watch some of the No Friends Vids and Kainoa McGee owns Pipe surfing or Bodyboarding and Sacha Specker featured in a double-page spread in the Zigzag a few issues ago.
So saying we're failed surfers is grossly incorrect.
Surfers will always give you kak, some weird gene that they possess BUT not all surfers, make friends with them and get over the whole aggro vibe. Be the better person. I still have surfers giving me trouble at North Beach and i've been surfing there for over 10 yrs, just deal with it.
It's like the sun or the moon, it's just one of those things that'll always be there.
Revel in the fact that you'll most probably get to surf waves those guys only dream about, shallow reefs, dredging shorebreaks and grinding barrells.
    Life looks sweet lying down!

never dude. EL is sooooo mellow. ive had glares and stuff when i first paddle out. but if you charge the first wave(close out or not), and surf a properly, dont wast them, spinning, throwing cutties, doing rolls or what ever and show you can surf, most surfer will leave you alone. also when you paddle out, greet em. creat a mellow vibe. yes there is one or two tits out there, but they dont get it my may and dont get in theirs. give respect to gain respect.

places like nahoon, where im sure you go after school is full of german learning surfers. they even drop in on my stand up mate!!! get over them, they dont know better. let him know his a dick and he wont do it again. or just dont surf near them.

it also might be your age bro. when i was younger, 14-18, i also had to sit a few yards back and surf the left overs. now days i get stuck in there. grown myself a bokkie and the stand up lighties give me their waves  and show me tons of respect!! 8) especially after big rollo or spin off the lip. (these move may be easy, but look good and seem to gain much respect!)

    bottom line or lines are:
    give respect to gain respect,
understand what it is to be a grom (we were all there!)
    and most important,
    charge

    Exactly bro.
We can take off on waves they only wish they could drop into!!!
I really dont care wat anyone thinks of me cos of the fact that i boog.
Cos u know wat,i can standup as good as any of them.
If they gimme kuk i'll tune them to swop boards and i'll show them.

The fact that I luv to DK rather than standup is my own preference.
If a surfer drops in on me,he can expect a nice burn from urs truly the very next wave i really dont care.
If he has a problem with fair being fair then we can settle it on the beach mano e mano.
I hav gained the respect of locals at a lot of breaks, not because im overfriendly and wipe their asses, but just cos i can carve any wave just as good (or even better) as/than they can and they can see and kno that.
One guy even asked me why i dont standup cos im basically doin it already after seeing me get tubed off my pip and blown out.
I told him that I CAN surf but chooz not too cos to me my sponge is my chosen weapon for riding the big green monsters.
Its wat gives me the most pleasure to ride.I feel more in control of it too.
    1: eezier to duckdive.
2:wont leev me with only one eye.
3:wont break my bones if it connects me hard.
4:wont cut me so deep that i need heavy medical attention.
5:isnt a threat to other waterpeeps if i bail or ride over them by accident.
6:DK is the way baby ya herd meeeee!!!!

Did that oke say anyone can lie down?
PPPFFF watever beot,i'd like to see him on a bodyboard and see how KOOKISH he looks
Then i will just laugh in his bek.

I skateboarded for a long time and it was the same vibe with rollerbladers and skateboarders.
Skaters felt that it was 4 people that couldnt skate.
For me it was more of a thing like,oh it takes sooo long to get good at skating and blading is eezier so i'll just blade,u kno?
I still think its a lil naff & gay but i would never tune an oke swak about it cos to belittle sumone is not an honourable thing.
People need to start thinking about other people too instead of just themselves.
That way the werld will start to come right methinks

    The saga continues........

People need to stop being dooses.

wat Len says is tru aswell.
When ur younger it is harder to get the respect u feel u deserve.
But it will get better with a lil time.

Otherwise grow urself a bokkie if u can as suggested
I have had one for yrs and u kno wat.....i think it werks!!!

The age thing is the truest bit spoken about here... I've been sponging for 14 years now on and off and had many a scrap with stand up boys and even local spongers... I'm 25 now and I can count in my 2 hands the amount of times some one has dropped in on me, now days I have a bigger problem with groms hustling every wave on a set... You just have to learn to read the water better than the rest of the dudes out there and you will get far more quality rides, which to me is way better than quantity.

anyho good luck with teaching those stand up boys a lesson or two in the water.

    listen guys,
I go out for a paddle on a bodyboard and I get vibes,
then a couple of days later I go for a paddle on a surfboard and I get the same vibes so to be perfectly honest it just seems as if surfers have lost the reason they get in the water, and that's to have fun.
So shake it off, take heavier drops, boost bigger airs and have more fun and laugh at them when they give you attitude.
    good times

    Kru, nail on the head.
If any of you read spike article (he is a surfer himself) and states that surfers are generally just grumpier in the water... end of the day jelousy makes you nasty and well we allll know who the nasty ones in the water are... so they are just jelous, laugh it off, and like SMT said this is been discussed to death. So over it.....yawwwwwwwwwwn!!!!!!!!

Yeah Lyle, thats right I goto Nahoon after school during the week, but its not all that great of a wave, only in winter it gets decent, and on gale wests, But i prefer Y******ws, or easterns, or some other spots out of town.

ahhh for sure i go with what Ian says...! i laugh and burn them when bodyboarding... and when i standup on those not fun bodyboard days i burn them and irriate them..hahha..

just ignore them. they should be the ones losing sleep over us not us worrying about them and losing sleep..

I live in a house with 3 surfers and I get K@K all the time, Why are you BOOGIEboarding, "When are you going to stop being childish and stand up". This happens everyday but when we go out and there's a crunchy shorie or just fat hollow waves I show them that i can drop into anything and get way more air than them. I'll tell you i have even had my uncle who is the worst claiming a perfect in and out tube and tha stops the K@K for a while but it always starts again so i've just learny to live with it hey. Besides 1 day I'll invert over the top of them and kick them in the face with my MAKS.
