    ok all durban based
    what about imports? No friends.

Wet suites? Well Reef has always put back into bodyboarding.
Now bodyboards? do we carry on syupporting companies like morey, remeber a surfer runs the agency now.. and since he took it over i have never seen 1 cent put back into the community. All i see now is crap picknpay specials selling for R400 (with free leash) at all the upmarket surf botiques in canal walk. now these boards wont survive a 3 ft day at muizenburg..... those boards are marketed towards tourists who want to have a go. And well their upmarket boards arnt much better either.
So even though i ride a morey myself (got it from jeremy C...respect) i call for a boycot on morey, we need solidarity in this.

Dont wear lame lables, buy boards from bodyboarder run companies, not boards from surfer run companies, if the skateboarders could turn their sporting market around so can we... we just have to follow their lead. Bodyboarding will only survive when bodyboarders are in control of their own sport, both in the water and in the market place.

    till later
    Peace

    Ok

AINT EVEN GOING TO ARGUE THIS POINT ANYMORE!

    OK, maybe missing the point.

The concept is quite simple - reward those companies that are putting money back into the sport by buying their product, be it bodyboarding clothing/surf clothing, boards - whatever! Even something not even bodyboarding related - if you have to get a new cell phone - what are you network are you going to connect to? Hopefully Vodacom, they are the only cell company supporting bodyboarding and could potentially be a big corporate sponsor.

We all have a brain - so use it ... rather than companies just making money out of us because we are sheep, because it's cool to wear a certain brand - rather try do something for your sport and have a little think about whether or not you want to hand your hard earned cash over to a particular company. Some small companies e.g. Dibs put in a hell of a lot more sponsorship than some of the large companies who have the token bodyboarder on their team and no contest sponsorships. The companies with the token sponsorships are the harder ones to decide on but if you compare what they sponsor in other sports then you should be able to make up your mind.

Other companies are quite open about their sponsorship program - Volcom has decided to pick four sports to sponsor (if I'm told correctly): surf, skate, snowboard & bmx - this is the real world, it's business and you haven't got an endless supply of cash to pump into sponsorships. We as bodyboarders should simply not be buying a surf/skate/snow/bmx brand - are we stupid? How is that going to help us?

Just very simply - stop buying other sports products and pump your money into a company that is putting back into our sport. No abuse should be targeted at these companies that are openly not bodyboarding companies - if, after bodyboarders stop buying their products, they realise that it is hurting them and they need to get that part of the market sector back then at that point they will hopefully start pumping money in. If not, our money is going elsewhere, to companies who are putting money in - so no worries!

Spy Dude's point of a surfer running a bodyboarding company - maybe shouldn't bring the surfer tag into it as this is as it's the individual and not the whole surfing community. The fact that someone may be profiting out of bodyboarding and not putting back into the sport means that you should be able to identify this in your own mind and decide to purchase another brand the owner may be a surfer/non-surfer ... doesn't matter! It's the individual person/company not the entire surfing community.

Here's a question: Company X sells the same spec board for R100 more than Company Y, but Company X sponsors loads of riders and a contest and Company Y doesn't sponsor any or only has a token rider - which board are you going to buy?

Brandon Foster makes a valid point in that the guys at the top of the sport, the one's moaning that there are no sponsors for our events, not enough prize money etc, you can still see them wearing clothing from labels which are not putting in their fair share to the sport or nothing at all. C'mon, you are the guys who need to act first, without that we are moving nowhere. You are the ones who are able to make it uncool to wear a certain brand, to ride their boards or use their product, you are the ones who can make it cool to support a certain company, to boost their sales enabling them to pump further money back into the sport.

Doesn't matter who runs the company - be it a surfer/bodyboarder/skater/corporate/whoever - if they're supporting our sport sufficiently (putting in what they can afford - remember they have to make a profit, no-one gets into business for charity) then we should support them!

Simple concept - make it work! Stop being idiots (me included) and rather buy from a company that is going to help bodyboarding get to where it should be! The brand you may be after may not be easily obtainable so if it is not available in your lcoal surfshops - hassle the owner to stock it!!! Customer feedback makes their job of stocking their shop a hell of a lot easier!

Check out our > Profiles > Sponsors page to see which companies sponsor what riders. If you've got a sponsor and you're not on there then you haven't added them to your profile. If you're a company and want to have your riders listed then send the list onto me.

Hey there, agree with Kelly on this one. Reef are a prime example. They put loads back into the sport but arent necessarily bodyboarders. My next suit will be a reef for sure.

There are more companies that are willing to back bodyboarding. From SA champs I see that 13th Movement are planning some gear and more vids. Mutti sponsored a few shirts, lets see if they continue the support. Another upstart from Natal is Hoe, still small but big plans. Sure there are loads more, lets hear from you

Spy Dude you're right, When you walk into a surf shop in cape town all you see are the big brands clothes, the surf shops should try and bring in more local stuff, its cheaper and sometimes better quality as well.
I would support the companies that support bodyboarding but shit mabe they should try and get their products better marketed.
Just a thought to the producers, use it dont use it.

thats a cheap cop out sponger, sure you can say you would buy bodyboardin brands if they were better marketed. but can they really afford to do that if no one gets them in the first place? The nearest bodyboard shop to me is 40mins away and i am happy to travel there as long as i know i am doing my part to support bodyboarding. If all bodyboarders did this we wouldn't have all this problems like limitted no. of events on the WST and the cancellation of the pipe contest

I did not say only the companies should market, i also said the surf shops should try and help the local brands out. You never see a huge poster saying they have local stuff, usually only the big brands are advertised. Mabe they should just try and tell everyone about the local clothes, etc.(good quality, chep price, local brand.) Some like that, I do support the companies but i cant support them more than i do because there is only that much I can do.
