hmm yes i hav heard much about the science boards.
I think it all comes down to the template that werks best for u in the end really.

I like to experiment but i do also kno which shapes hav served me well and i sort f borrow from them when gettin new sticks.
I ride an ATD snap DK model and i really hav to say its the BUSINESS!!!

As far as comparing them to other makes and models......i dont think u can really :)

    stay kiff.

I got an ATD a few months ago and it is an awesome machine. Science do have a really good reputation and they support loads of riders and contests, but one thing I've noticed is the trend towards narrower and narrower boards over the years and for me it just does not work. Most stock signature boards are good for pros that only weigh maybe 75 kilos (Hubb is even less) so if your are heavier you need a different board. With ATD you get a very good quality board exactly to the specs, colours and design YOU want/need for MAYBE a couple hundred bucks more, I'd say its the way to go. If you drop Al an email he's quick to respond and the board turnaround for me was like 2 weeks cause he was super busy. I picked up the box from my local post office after work, put a leash in, put some wax on and I was in the water. Done and dusted. For me it's no contest, my next board is def an ATD custom.

we have a wide range of science boards, MS1,MS8,MS vaughn harris,MS daniel worsley, MS TR, MS9, MS3. in this range we cater for everybody. i am 89kg and ride a MS1 42.5" and its great. Peter Lambert rides the MS3 and MS TR he weighs 90kg, Donavon Bassit weighs 88kg and rides the MS daniel worsley. the MS8 is a wide board and the MS TR is a narrow board. what i am trying to tell you is go and check out the boards. they all been designed by Mike Stewart and the boards in the shops are the same boards that the sponsered riders ride. we will give you a rapid after sales service. we at science do alot back towards the sport of body boarding, with helping riders, development and contests. i believe this is all about whats best for you and whats best for the sport. al is sponsered by us with Reef Wetsuits and is one of the most decent guys that i have ever met. his boards are really good. thats what makes life so interessting, choices. thanks for the guys who do support me, i do appreciate it, for the other guys we are all body boarders, as long as we all have fun. well enjoy your science board and if you do not have a science board please still say hi to me.

    Hi Lyle

having ridden over 40 different boards over the years and being very familliar with the science range, I can tell you the following:

try different boards and work out what board you like riding before you buy it. I have been bodyboarding for 17 years and I still cant accurately just look at a board and know exactly how it will ride - trying it is the only way. Re the science boards, there are a lot of different models but the 3 I know well are the following:

MS1 - good big wave board, has a fair bit of flex, likes to airdrop into big sucky barrels, pretty manuverable. Bat tail, ok for dk, average in small waves.
best for waves like (insert name of 8-10 foot airdropish freakish reef break)

MS3 - good board for medium / smaller waves - generates the most speed for the same ammount of power wave - ideal for hollow waves that don't have heaps of power (eg 4 ft kalk bay) ok for dk - bat tail

MS-TR (Thomas Robinson) Science's best crescent tail and in my opinion their best board for versatile riding. I love this board - a good compromise between the 2 boards above, and goes very well on the knee as well. Good speed, excelent barrel holding, manuverable, and good in pretty much everthing except 2ft slop - and even then its not that bad.

I weight 93 kgs and ride the 43" - look me up and you can borrow it and try before you buy.

shot for all the input. anyone know what the ATD PXL series is like? the one that in meant to be seamless.

Yeah I got one of the first ones AT made.
If u go to his site, under PXL gallery its the red ferrari Snap model one with the gel badge on the deck.
Its like nothin i have ever seen b4.
It is basically seemless too like u say.

The bottom is also very different to normal surlyn and at first i thought WTF???
But I killed my very first wave on that beauty on the knee and i must say I was REALLY impressed.
Really stiff and remained flat as anything u could think of.
Speedwise it was really good to and i found that the channel system he uses works great.
Really responsive boards in my opinion.
Im not tryin to knock anyones brand or anything cos I strongly believe with wat was said earlier, that we're all in it for the fun and comeradie and stuff but wat I cant help and will say,is that the ATD boards that I own hav been kinda special.

And Im one sooperhardandfussybastard to pleez LOL.
No really the last board that served me nearly as well as my snap was the old manta Roach with the small nose,if u know it?
I hav yet to ride a science stick, mostly due to the fact that Im pretty old skool with regards to my shapes etc...and im always a lil scared a bat tail will let me down when i need it most.

So ja I reckon give ur most likely buys a test ride first cos if it were me.......i def would!!!

i am about as old school as you get and i dont ride anything but a bat tail.
but then again i dont DK much either.

    Thats exactly it.
I find that fat channels and a sweet crescent tail provide me with oodles of crankin control.
The bats just gimme slideouts when I dk big hollow corkers.

But for prone, the bats' more surface area gives one alot to work with for all the manouvres u check :)

For me its almost impossible to find a board that gives me all the control i need for the knee aswell as sweetass prone capabilities.
So when i do find one im over the moon, and then under again cos i kno its gonna be discontinued the next year when the new range comes out.
The Roach was such a board(and i dont care if u dont believe me LOL) and so were alot of the old mantas namely the pirahna, skipp and eppo models.

Why dont board companies just like produce a limited or by special order sum of the legendary stix of yesteryear???
    That would be sick!!!

Oh wait a sec,if u giv AT an old board or its dimensions he can ressurect them!!!!
Yesman, guess who's gonna be cruisin on a new old Roach soon then :)

All in all i dig a nice shape ,be it round or regular and FAT channels and a stiff core.

    Everybody stay kiff 8)
