Looks like working my ass off in sunny London the last six months has paid off. Got myself a shweet little Canon and underwater housiing. Can't wait to get it out the box and into the water in Slaapstad for a couple weeks of sun, surf and scenery in feb.

Its a Canon G9 so I can like to be shooting RAW in the water. Although with my current level of fitness its probably gonna be more of a personal flotation device haha, hope I don't drown at the Hoek.

Awesome Nick, that housing camera combo is like so sick
you forgot to mention that its image stabalised and 12 mega pixel, and probably the finest compact camera you can get in the water without a third party housing. Madness, when are you back in CT? Im busy trying to hook a housing for my 40d... have been borroing a 350d and spl up till now.

Does anyone have any idea where you could source a housing for a 350D in South Africa?

I sourced one from the US, it came with lifetime insurance against flooding which is great but with shipping it was R10k...

    Hey Ninja

I know of a couple of options

    1. Speak to cracker there is a guy in durban that makes okish water housings that he knows who made crackers hosing - they are a bit big and awkward but I really think that are great value for money - think they are about 6 grand

    2. Speak to Kevin Kolesky, (Craig's bro) Kev makes water housings.... cost is R 5000 if you don't allready have a remote trigger, or 4500 if you do... he is under my friends on facebook you could get him that way or on 076 993 0219

    3. Speak to mark clark - he has a top of the range SPL 350d housing that he is looking to potentially sell, and this housing has allready gleaned a cople of sixty40 mag covers. This housing is second hand but is way superior to the housings listed above, and allows for setting of ISO and Shutter speed in the water, and has pistol grip and on housing shutter releases, and can be upgraded to take a speedlight, and can allready utilise the onboard pop up flas... new they are about 12 grand, but mark will (I am sure) be willing to negotiate) his housing will fit the 350d plus a 50mm or 14mm fisheye - Mark can be reached on 071 133 8512

Me and mark are looking at spending aboutg 17 grand to get the new liquid eye housing together for the 5d/40d/30d and some lenses

Ya Peter, looking forward to getting back home, still trying to finalise the dates tho. 40D is a styling cam, will be quite the beast with the right glass. Wish I could get more into the photog scene but its seriously heavy on the wallet. Will get there slowly I spose.

If anyones looking for a more hands on approach to the water housing debacle, my good mate Sean (Fish Hoek oke) runs Camcraft (http://www.camcraftsa.com) in Woodstock. He has a CNC mill for cutting wood and plastics and runs a tight ship, so will be able to give advice for a range of things. We were gonna try make a housing for a small compact camera before I decided to bail and come over to UK for a while. Check out the webpage and give him a shout. Well thats the free advertising out the way, you owe me one Seano.

Would be cool to see what people are shooting with, so anyone who's interested post your kit.
