Classic Bodyboards

I have had quite a quiver of boards in 20 years of riding. A classic mid break to shorey board was called a Pro Attach (the older school will remember these, early 90`s). Another good board was the Wave Rebel Tamega with a nice wide nose (obviously a prone board), but I still rate the MS Launch Vehicle as my best board. I have two of these boards but dont ride them much as they are going down in history as retro classics![/quote]

I still have a yellow Mach 77 laying in the garage, as well as the white and pink wave warrior.
Bleak i sold my lazer 2 MJ to my vaalie cousin though, that would have been a top retro classic.

Anyone rember the original Laser 2 -- the pink one.

OK, here is a list of some real classics that could bring a tear to some of the older riders. Pro-Attack, Laser 2, Laser 2 CX, Laser 2 MJ, Mach XLR8, Mach 1, BZ T10, Mach 7-SS and Jay Real SS, Mach20 RS, Turbo 3, Mach 10, Wave Rebel with fibre glass bottom, Mach 7-7.
Will do some homework and try and get some images.

Classic ... although I'm not sure how safe you would have been cruising the 'borough streets with a Turbo 3 ...

Never ever saw a Mach 20 RS but there was a bit of hype and myth about it when it came out. Not even 100% if the RS did actually stand for "Retractable Skegs" but by the time the news got down to the sleepy South Coast, you could apparantly retract the skegs while riding. So thought I'd look up a photo and this was the best I could find ...

Haha..I spotted an old school laser board in my neighbours garage yesterday!Looked like it was in pretty good condition too..I might have to try buy it off him!Does anyone remember that old morey steve mckenzie model with the dimpled bottom?I could never figure out what the point of that was, but thought it was really cool when I saw it as a grom.

yea i had one of the Steve MacKenzie "Bullet" boards.. it was basically his signature model based on the Mach 8TX, and well the dimpled bottom supposedly trapped air between the board and wave and helped with speed...
was the 1st board i owned once i started working for Island Style and was lucky enough to score a store sponsorship via Jeremy @ Morey < Legend> and later the Cockwells from Custom X

other classics i owned were the Mach 7x, the Wave Rebel Keith Sasaki, the O&E Razor 2, a Lazer 2 MJ
and then a Wave Rebel Tamega and the Brian Wise Bat tail..

Later on i was lucky to have the Steve MacKenzie, The square tail "Unreal", Mach 25 Fybercel, Morey Spencer Skipper, Mike Stewart Pro Comp 42 and a couple Custom X Fred Booths..

my current quiver is a Fred Both 42' Stringer in SA and a Custom X Conflict

I had Mach 20 RS from 1988 - 1993 but traded it in when Hot Buttered first came out with the "new" materials. I'd pay a lot of cash to get hold of some of those retractable fins and put them in an ATD custom. I used to DK derde steen (round about the time of Mike Stewarts first visit to SA) on that Mach 20 RS but I'd only clip the inside skeg out. That board was SO heavy but for DKing the big stuff it was great!

I was gonna get my hands on a lazer 2 MJ for the Kalk bay shootout ( but it was way too bannana) still.

I have a old school cutom x STC in my storeroom, with six crease lines from 1 wave at platboom underneath... best board i ever rode, kept it so one day when i am rich enough to afford a custom board someone can shape it for me.

I also still have my wave warrior somewhere but in all honesty, from years of skimming over the pool on flat days, the clorine as worked it into a crystalised mess.

I dug up some serious old school photos last night, will scan and post at a later stage.

sheesh! Those adverts for the lazer boards were classic, acctually advertised in the "offshore" surfing magazine!!! can you believe it! Going to try get a pic of the advert and put it up!

The McKenzie board "bullet" had those dimples in the bottom. i also heard it helped for speed but i think it was mainly cosmetic.."bullet holes in the bottom"

Hey Spy Dude! Congrats on your lightie!!! so stoked for you! You must get the Lazer for the Kalk Bay Shootout this year!!! Own some one-handed cutbacks and floaters!! hweeew!

Aaaah man, I remeber those classics but never got to surf them excet for my first board, which was a 42" or 43" SuperMach, it had nylon string woven under the clear plastic slick, laminated to the core, it was so big that when I got it at 15, I couldn't get my arm under the bottom rail it to carry it under my arm (I was a small lightie but still!) It was also SOOOOO heavy which sucked for a lightie who was too small and missioning on long walks and train rides to surf!

I still have it although it's lying in a mates garage and I had to get Rossi to re-slick it after a few years which is such a pity now, I WISH I'd had the money then to just put it aside and keep it original.

I also saw the advert for it in a video called Loaded which was so cheesy, a guy takes off on a wave and typical dream sequence wavy-blur takes us to all these guys lining up to get in to a club called THE GREEN ROOM, the bouncer inspects all the boards bouncing everyone (to wipe-out flashes) until he gets to the guy with the SuperMach and lets him in, it was just too much cos I only saw it once I had gotten a newer board...

HA HA HA I remember that whack morey ad, it was SO weak. Spy if you get an MJ for the shootout I'll try get my hands on something better like a lumo fibre-glass Kolaski....best 1 handed cuttie and hand-drag spin wins....ha ha ha But then again I'm not going to risk getting klupped on the head out at Kalk bay.....we'll take it to the Burg!! ha ha ha

You know that ATD can print any graphics you want on a custom board.....replicas might be big bussiness guys.

Yoh ChinnyChin, I think you should ring the patent office! With Neon coming back in I think replicas like that would cash out!

    Wassup guys.

My first board was a laser 2 but it sucked water like a sponge. i still have it but it's sitting in the garage while i ride my Nomad RV. i learnt to surf on it and it was a legend. I only payed R70 for it from cash converters.
