    bahahha!
    welcome to cape town bro.
the best thing to do is lie in the water, start laughing and then just get demolished my the next set... cause you have NO OTHER CHOICES!

    hehe

everyone gets them, theyre 100% normal. after bboarding a while, ull get them less and less.

but seriously the best thing is to let the ocean take u for her prisoner!

What you have to do is stretch it. it will hurt like hell bru but it helps it dissappear faster. trust me. i got one in 10ft surf in durbs and it was hell.

I am no sports guru, but warming up properly before you surf is generally a good way to avoid cramping...

Stretch your muscles properly in order to warm them up and get the blood flowing...

I once heard that taking Zinc tablets helps avoid cramping, but i am not sure how true that is...

No way to avoid them forever...no matter how fit you are...one thing is for sure though.

The more you surf, the better you eat, the fitter you will become and with that avoid things such as cramp.

Another thing that also helps with cramps is salt. if you just add a bit of salt to your food and generally increase your sodium intake your cramps should happen less and less often.
    hope it helps

Or just swallow half the next wave that thrashes you while you fight the spasms... that shouold sort your salt levels out! :-)

Just to add to the mix:
Dehydration causes cramp, so try drink heaps of water before going for a surf.
And I know that magnesium supplements prevent cramping (I took these for a while when it got really bad, and they worked).

Otherwise Elementree got the rest, warm up and be healthy.

Eat a banana before your session. I've never cramped up in a session after eating a piesang. Piesang, such a funny word. Almost as funny as guava :D

    only three reasons for cramping.

    1 dehidration
2 calsium and magnesium deficiantcy (hope its spelled right)
    3 overuse of the mussle

thats all from bodyboarding to comarades marathon

Thats tru.... I read remember I read in a  ZIGZAG  mag a couple of years ago to eat a banana before going for a surf session, so hopefully it works.

    ZIG ZAG IS PURE EVIL....

although i did have a laugh yesterday, was clearing out old mags for recycling... and found a zag with the back cover holding 4 of my photos, one of them being mikey Q in a DK barrel at Kbay. Saddly inside was one of the most racist articles against bodyboarders.

I pity zag for breeding the hate amongst surfers against us.

I respect wavescape for breed a understanding of fairness and tolerance for all water sports.

:D My Girlfriend surfs, her sister as well and so does her Dad, I get to page through the Zigzag and Spy's right in saying that they breed the hatred against Bodyboarders but I had a good laugh in the last issue!!!
First, they have a little write-up saying how cool it is to sign-up to the Zag online mailing list, you can win prizes, yay! Luck guy who won a prize is none other than our very own Peter Lambert, well done on winning a brand new custom Surfboard as well as some nice kit from Island Style, if only they knew, hahahaha!
Second, there's a nice readers letter about why he hates Bodyboarders, funny thing though, all the things he lists are what makes us BETTER, taking off deeper, etc. He also says we copied them with our DK, airs and cutbacks??? Yup, apparently they invented the Rodeo Flip and we then went back in time and started doing ARS's, damn us copiers!!!
Lastly, 2pages after this letter, double page shot of Mr Sacha Specker, cruising on a surfboard through a very pretty Barrell, nice! Slowly, we are taking over, Mwuhahahahahahahahaha!
Anyway, I like surfers (some of them), I read the Zag and I watch surfing Vids, does it make me less of a bodyboarder???
p.s It was a surfer who first started me in Bodyboarding!

YEah, I wanted a surf-board back in Std. 1 and never got it, fastforward a few years and I got a bodyboard which makes me smile knowingly looking back...

I have surfer friends and when South Africa had no bodyboarding magazines I was even a zag subscriber, seeing fresh Saffa waves kept me stoked when I had no net and no literary sustenance...

Surfers are just people, and hating them is the same as racism, people don't suck because they're a different colour or ride differently, they just are either nice or crap people...

Dammit, I am not preaching... sorry.

ja banananana so you can monkey around in the water...

    or

just use one leg at a time but the side effect might be paddling around in cricles ;)

    hahaha..

no for real all of the above from the other guys!! Stretching is vital i find and cant remember the last time i cramped..but theres more to then just a 5 min stretch everytime you go in the water.. im talking about 30-60mins a day everyday with lots of water

    good luck!
