I think Morph was actually a claymation dude that appeared on some art programme at the same time? The little chalk line guy never really had a name, 'cos they never translated it from the French subtitles for us - wasn't worth it, I guess, seeing as there was no dialogue...

I have seen this trailer hundred of times before... looks pretty sweet.
